Celebrating Over $200M Raised on StartEngine

Celebrating Over $200M Raised on StartEngine

Companies on StartEngine have now raised over $200M! To put this milestone into context, we wanted to talk about how much has changed since we raised our first $100M, a milestone we passed on July 28th, 2019.

Here are a few of the things that have happened In the 396 days since July 28th:

  • We were named the 10th fastest growing private company in California in 2020, according to the Inc. 5000 Series List
  • We signed a partnership with renowned businessman Kevin O’Leary, who is now our Strategic Advisor and a StartEngine investor
  • We hired 16 new employees, bringing our total to 36 employees.
  • We closed an $8.3M funding round for StartEngine itself, and we launched a new raise, which is already at $7.6M and counting.

But the thing that has changed the most in the past year is the daily investment activity on our platform. More people are investing more frequently than ever before. Let’s put that activity into perspective.

Amount Raised Over Time on StartEngine

It took 1,743 days to raise our first $100M. Our second $100M took only 396 days.

Another way to think about it is this. Between 2015 and July 28th, 2019, the companies on StartEngine raised funds at an average of $55.60 per minute. Between July 28th and now, they’ve raised an average of $175.36 per minute, and our platform has raised over $85M so far in 2020 alone.

The reason we’ve been able to grow so quickly is due to the investors on StartEngine.

Today, over 123,000 people have made an investment on StartEngine, and we are so grateful to each and every one of you for helping us reach this milestone.

The Number of Investors Who Invested In the First $100M Raised on StartEngine Vs. The Second $100M

As we welcome so many new investors, we also want to take a moment and give special thanks to our 15,000+ StartEngine Owners—our StartEngine shareholders—who are our most active users and have invested a combined $63.5M of that $200M into the companies on StartEngine.

So far, we have funded 439 campaigns from companies in 53 different industries, and as we grow, we are excited to bring a greater variety of investment opportunities to our platform and to you, our community.

Thank you for being a part of our story so far, and we are excited to continue our growth, to $300M raised and beyond.

And if you want to support that growth, you can invest in StartEngine itself and become a StartEngine Owner.

Investing in private company securities is not suitable for all investors. An investment in private company securities is highly speculative and involves a high degree of risk. It should only be considered a long-term investment. You must be prepared to withstand a total loss of your investment. Private company securities are also highly illiquid, and there is no guarantee that a market will develop for such securities. Each investment also carries its own specific risks, and you should complete your own independent due diligence regarding the investment. This includes obtaining additional information about the company, opinions, financial projections, and legal or other investment advice. Accordingly, investing in private company securities is appropriate only for those investors who can tolerate a high degree of risk and do not require a liquid investment.

StartEngine Marketplace (“SE Marketplace”) is a website operated by StartEngine Primary, LLC (“SE Primary”), a broker-dealer that is registered with the SEC and a member of FINRA and the SIPC. StartEngine Bulletin Board ("SE BB") is a bulletin board platform that advertises interest in shares of private companies that previously executed Reg CF or Reg A offerings. SE BB enables shareholders to communicate interest in potential sales of shares in private companies and investors to discover, review, and potentially invest in private companies. As a bulletin board platform, SE BB provides a venue for investors to access information about private company offerings and connect with potential sellers. SE BB is distinct and separate from StartEngine Secondary (“SE Secondary”), which is an SEC-registered Alternative Trading System (ATS) operated by SE Primary. SE Secondary facilitates the trading of securities by matching orders between buyers and sellers and facilitating executions of trades on the platform. While a security may be displayed on the bulletin board, these securities will be subject to certain restrictions which may prevent the ability to buy and sell these securities in a timely manner, if at all. Even if a security is qualified to be displayed on the bulletin board, there is no guarantee an active trading market for the securities will ever develop, or if developed, be maintained. You should assume that you may not be able to liquidate your investment for some time or be able to pledge these shares as collateral.
