Co-founder Capt. Andy Langesfeld and Steve Tice, founder of QuantumWorks, have teamed up to develop this product line to fill a void in the marketplace, starting first with the Trident LS-1. This line of next-generation, small-to-midsize amphibious vehicles will have a range of applications and markets, spanning recreation, adventure, personal & commercial transportation, as well as search-and-rescue.

The Problem

Growing Amphibious Demand Due to Climate Change

Our world as we know it is changing, bringing water levels and flooding right onto our streets and doorsteps. In order to keep up with climate change humans will need to adapt quickly to the challenges we expect to be facing.

*The above vehicle shown is not an amphibious vehicle and was not developed by Poseidon AmphibWorks.

A sea level rise of 1-8 feet is predicted by 2100, and some say that could happen as soon as 2050 (source, source). Flooding is happening more often and in places that historically might not have been flooded before (source).

(sourcesource)

As the number of wetland areas rise, vehicle owners are looking for solutions. Having an amphibious vehicle that can serve as a household's recreational vehicle could become a lifesaver when the unexpected happens, however current vehicles within the market offer sub-optimal marine performance and are only legal for off-road use.

Enter Poseidon AmphibWorks.

The Solution

Road and Water Capabilities Combined Into One Vehicle

Our goal is to produce fast and highly efficient road & water electric vehicles unique in the market today and to usher in a paradigm shift for transport, recreation, business, and government applications. To do so, meet the first vehicle in the pipeline: the Trident LS-1.

*The above is a rendering of the Trident LS-1. Image features a computer generated concept model.

Product is still currently under development including the overall styling.

Short for “Land and Sea,” the Trident LS-1 is a patent-pending, electric amphibious 3-wheeler designed to be more efficient in all aspects than current electric boats.

Capable of seating 3+ people, the Trident LS-1 will be a highway road-legal autocycle with integration of high performance hydrofoil marine capabilities for water travel. Additionally, the modular deck supports use cases such as recreation lounging, transport of various sized supplies, and even special handicap provisions. This combination of features and performance for our first vehicle is unique, and to our knowledge no other vehicle exists like it today.

*The above is a rendering of the Trident LS-1. Image features a computer generated concept model.

Product is still currently under development including the overall styling.

The multi-motor design of the LS-1 powertrains will allow for some interesting features. For example, for marine travel, station keeping, rudderless operation, and lower-speed lift up on foils of the vehicle, are just some of the planned possible functions. For land operation, all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, and torque vectoring-enabled power assist steering (to benefit smaller, more efficient power assist module) will be included.

Safety features like seat belts and blind spot cameras will be included, exceeding what is required by both road and marine governmental agencies as well as what other Autocycle OEMs are offering.

*The above is a rendering of the Trident LS-1. Images feature a computer generated concept model.

Product is still currently under development including the overall styling. Performance statistics shown are projections.

The Trident LS-1 will be capable of lifting out of rough water fast. “Fly over the waves” to avoid wave-induced bumps and enjoy a smooth ride, equipped with true fly-by-wire steering. With our patent pending foil innovations, the Trident will lift out of the water at a lower speed than equivalent foil-enabled craft.

Getting the boat to lift from the water and “fly” on hydrofoils will be handled by the onboard flight control system, and once on foils, the boat will maintain stability under computer “flight” control. Smartphone charging, 12VDC, and 110Vac device power supplies, certified for marine use, will be included. More features will follow, as the LS-1 will be upgradeable Over-The-Air (OTA).

*The above is a rendering of the Trident LS-1. Image features a computer generated concept model.

Product is still currently under development including the overall styling.

The LS-1 design optimizes efficiency both on-land and in-water to get the most range and performance from a proven, commercially-sourced battery system, with the basic vehicle model targeting the average outdoor adventure consumer. Previous amphibious attempts could only be afforded by very wealthy individuals.

Our vehicles will be able to enter and exit the water using any regular public boat ramp as well as other hard packed, gently-sloped shore lines, providing alternative routes, opening possibilities to new destinations, as well as bypassing stifling traffic in many cities that represent untapped transportation routes. Popular boat ramp navigation apps such as "Marine Ways" will make navigation from ramp to ramp a breeze. Additionally, users will have access to OTA updates and remote performance & systems monitoring, all while charging at home or at Level 1, 2 and DC Fast Charge charging stations.

Like Tesla Motors, a first mover in the electric road vehicle space, our business model will consist of direct-to-consumer sales of vehicles.

Later commercial versions will also be sold directly to user groups like search-and-rescue teams, fire departments, military & coast protection, and limo & taxi fleets.

The Market

Filling a Void in the Marketplace

In 2021, the value of the Global Amphibious Vehicle Market was close to $3B, with projections that the market is expected to hit $4.71B in 2027 (source). Similarly, the related Global UTV/ATV Market is valued at $7.6B in 2017 and is expected to exceed $12B by 2027 (source).

*Information based on internal research conducted by company when paired with additional statistics (source)

As COVID introduced a new wave of outdoor activity and increase in camping, bicycling, and other adventure vehicles (source), we expect the market trends to continue into the untapped category of amphibious vehicles.

Amphibious vehicles are needed for a range of real-world operations, from taxi shuttles to military, tourism, and even as a dual purpose yacht tender connecting yachts with an easy transport option to shore, where these vehicles then effortlessly become a very capable and street legal vehicle. Our combination of features uniquely solves the demand vacuum.

*The above is a rendering of the Trident LS-1. Image features a computer generated concept model.

Product is still currently under development including the overall styling.

Up to this point, we believe that past suppliers have failed to create efficient,  affordable and reliable products, and even today, nobody is currently supplying 3+ passenger recreational or commercial amphibious vehicles that meet our standards of on-water performance and meet U.S. marine & highway regulations. Past amphibious vehicles have been inefficient, expensive, maintenance intensive, and ran off fossil fuels.

By being entirely electric and an “autocycle,” the Trident LS-1 will have a lower drag both on the water and the road, also benefiting from reduced crash requirements (meaning reduced investment required) of 4+ wheeled road vehicle regulations.

On the water, the Trident will automatically offer several levels of redundancy and safety, going into “limp mode” (lower speed to preserve remaining battery energy) to extend range, with additional REX (range extender) options available for those that require longer range and operational flexibility.

With our strategically-structured team, our focus on abiding by all existing regulations from the start, and our affordable price point, Poseidon AmphibWorks is expecting to be a market breakout.

Design Analysis of our 1st model Trident LS-1 continues... Ergonomic analysis

Our first model Trident LS-1, the entry level model, needs to be at the reasonable sell price that we proposed.

Because of focus on cost, elimination of real doors and windows not only saves cost but saves weight which is crucial for getting the most range out of the smallest battery pack both for road and water travel.

Here are snapshots of some human factors ingress/egress analysis using the worst case 95th percentile human male, via 2 method s: rear folded stair tailgate entry and side entry via fold out step.

We will do trade off analysis to see how much weight and cost two front doors will add to this LS-1 base model.

"Amphibious electric 3-wheeler will drive, float and hydrofoil"

"Refreshingly, the company is aiming to keep things as accessible as possible when it comes to price. As a convertible multi-mode amphibian with flight-controlled hydrofoiling, it still won't be cheap. But at a target cost of US$95,000, it'll be cheaper than a lot of boat options, as well as a ton more convenient for quick outings or trips across lakes or rivers. The hydrofoil system will make it an exceptionally smooth ride through choppy waters, and it'll double as a fun little electric getabout on the street. What's not to like? "

Active controlled electric hydrofoil boat technology like what Poseidon's prototype demonstrated, perfect fit for the global market for high-speed ferries

Active controlled electric hydrofoil boat technology like what Poseidon's  prototype demonstrated, is a perfect fit for the global market for high-speed ferries.  “Flying” Electric Hydrofoil Ferries Could Slash Commutes in Coastal Cities

UPDATES:

Artemis Technologies, a company based in Belfast, has designed an all-electric passenger ferry to enter service in 2024. The operator Condor Ferries wants to use the hydrofoil as part of a pilot project between Belfast and Bangor in Northern Ireland and is banking on the ferry being fast.  Artemis Technologies is a spin-off of the Artemis Racing sailing team. Its founder is two-time Olympic champion Dr Iain Percy Obe. “We have combined our experience from the worlds of high-performance sailing, motorsports, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing to design and develop an electric propulsion system that is quite simply a game changer for the maritime industry,” comments Obe. “With hydrofoils that lift the boats out of the water, we are dramatically reducing drag.” The submerged electric propulsion system is exceptionally efficient, he adds, as proven by “rigorous testing with our 12m eFoiler® workboat”.  https://www.artemistechnologies.co.uk/media/

Candela convinces VOLVO Polestar to join - "I am fascinated by the way Candela’s boats glide elegantly and efficiently through, or better, over the water – amazing proof of the great aesthetics and experiences modern, sustainable technology can create," said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. "That Polestar will be part of future projects with Candela by supplying an essential part for the innovative propulsion of their boats, is awesome. As a battery supplier to Candela, we can help drive the transition to cleaner oceans and lakes, and electrify waterborne transport."

Candela's electric hydrofoil ferries could unlock the potential of Seattle's waterways soon - The Candela P-12 Shuttle, may be the world’s fastest all-electric passenger ship to hit the water in 2023, flying passengers at a service speed of 30 mph without wake, noise, exhaust fumes or CO2 emissions. During the Interferry conference on October 1-5, Candela showed its unique technology that can speed up Seattle's ferry rides dramatically, Candela said in its news release.  The P-12, developed by Stockholm boat builder Candela Technology, consumes about 3-4 kWh per nautical mile, which is one tenth of a conventional ship and comparable to the energy consumption of a modern electric-hybrid bus, making it the most energy efficient fast ship ever built.  https://www.marinelog.com/passenger/ferries/candela-thinks-its-50-passenger-foiling-e-ferry-is-the-right-answer-for-seattle/

"If I could implement one change tomorrow, all the filthy, antiquated, diesel-guzzling vaporetti [water buses] and cargo barges that circulate Venice's canals would be refitted with hybrid-electric engines," says da Mosto.  There are already signs of a shift in this direction. Candela, a Swedish company that builds electric hydrofoil boats, has carried out initial trials in Venice's lagoon. Candela P-12 shown below.

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20220927-italys-plan-to-save-venice-from-sinking

Meanwhile, as Venice waits, Stockholm has pounced. The regional government has commissioned a trial of the P-12 ferries, using the boats on a commuter route from the city center to the suburb of Ekerö, with a view to ultimately running a fleet of flying ferries. The boats will run on an increased frequency to make up for their smaller size. The boats will go into production in fall 2022 with the trial due to start in the first half of 2023.

Our Electric Hydrofoil Technology Can Dramatically Help The Small Shuttle Marine Shuttle Market

For application to small commercial marine shuttles or ferries, say up to ~10 meters, ~2x larger in size than the Trident LS-1, our teams electric powertrain and hydrofoil tech, can create quite the value proposition and opportunity transformation for this market. Lowering operating cost and improving customer experience are the key drivers. (https://vimeo.com/742794636)

Compare fossil fueled non hydrofoil monohull boat to electric hydrofoil monohull boat of same size.  The latter requires ~5x LESS power to produce same performance.  (See "power" rows below)

This translates into much lower cost to operate, not to mention the dramatically lower maintenance costs and higher reliability low electric powertrains.

Also we should mention these electric hydrofoil water shuttles would create little to no wakes allowing transit in protected waterways, and provide magic carpet smooth ride for customers. And with amphibious capability, no need for special docks so boarding can occur on parking lots near the boat ramps lowering infrastructure costs to provide these transport services.

Presentations continue to fully fund the prototype build phase... Stay tuned ...

HOW will Poseidon LOWER THE RISK in obtaining DOT and US Coast Guard regulations regarding required design features?

Well, thanks all for your support and investment!

Our first crowdfunding campaign achieved at least 2 of our 3 intended goals, that is:

1 - get potential customer feedback and

2 - get synergistic institutional investors to hear about us and start discussions with us.

3 - It is our intent to get our 3rd goal, that is, adequate prototype development funding from these types of investors mentioned above.

The main subject of this update addresses an issue brought up by many as a reason for summer past amphibious vehicle difficulties - getting both Road/Highway and Marine certifications.  Even though our 1st vehicle is an Autocycle (3-wheel), certain safety and convenience features are required to make the driving experience for owners similar to driving a standard SUV.

The lowest cost phase in a development to make changes to the design is still in the computer, therefore after our "regulations"  team member is done with his analysis, we will modify the digital design prior to doing detailed design to build the 1st prototype. Our regulations team member Christopher Bonanti, will address this issue below.

---------------

HOW will Poseidon LOWER THE RISK in obtaining DOT and US Coast Guard regulations regarding required design features?

By Christopher Bonanti, M.Eng., MBA  Christopher’s profile

My in depth understanding of NHTSA's and the US Coast Guard's regulations and their applicability to the Trident LS-1 will help reduce the overall regulatory risk of the vehicle.  To my knowledge, I am the only individual that has accomplished this approach with another manufacturer.

That said, I will be able to provide an approach that will facilitate inconsequential and exemption requests for regulatory relief to the aforementioned agencies.

When I complete the regulatory research/ analysis for the vehicle design, it will identify the best approach to comply with regulations and identify those that are not necessary for a small vehicle manufacturer.

When the company starts to scale at a significant level, we will have the foundation necessary to achieve full compliance.

Ultimately, I will provide a regulatory and financial risk analysis for the deliverables and budget that I previously provided.

This will be the best course of action to reduce risks and liability and increase overall efficiencies when designing and producing alpha and beta level vehicles.

As mentioned above, to my knowledge, I am the only individual that has accomplished this approach with another manufacturer.

Hopefully this response will be adequate for the current and new potential investors.

Best regards,

Chris

Followers and Investors - Only 2 days Left! We discuss below “Exterior Styles” and “Multi-function”, the top 2 reasons many FOLLOWERS chose not to invest with us…

We have heard from Followers on our page these past 3 months who have not “pulled the invest trigger” primarily for 2 reasons:

First, our exterior styles presented in our "cartoons" are not something they would like to be “seen driving in.”  This is unfortunate, because professional exterior styling is one of our key post-funding tasks; investors will have a vote to influence first what gets built for the prototypes and then for production.

Beauty will follow function, and the engineering involved to accomplish our amphibious, street legal, electric goals will dictate the looks. We absolutely agree that looks are important but our current "cartoons" are just that; examples of possible designs. Many potential investors may not have understood this and expected a final and pleasing appearance before we built our first prototype. We have to be realistic and take on the biggest challenges first. Looks are important but they will follow the successful sea trials and road tests that will undoubtedly require adjustments, changes and evaluation.

Secondly, many stated they are on the fence because they are concerned that a multifunction car-boat vehicle will be a compromise in either water or land, or not great in either mode.

The truth is, Trident LS-1 in marine mode, for those who understand active stabilized hydrofoils, are confident that with our technology already prototyped (see update below 12 days ago or click here), Trident LS-1 will be a more efficient and smoother riding recreational boat than many electric mono hull boats available today and being released soon.

Trident LS-1 in car mode, we admit, will not be a $85-95k SUV, as far as luxury and creature comforts. However, as far as handling, braking, acceleration and suspension compliance, it is being designed to perform admirably, matching some off road SUVs of today.

So we ask you “fence sitters” to please reconsider getting in on the ground floor before the next phase of investment is finalized. We have a great team with proven track record to build challenging vehicles both marine and land, so we are confident we can deliver what we have planned and presented to the public.

Thank you Investors for your support and thank you Followers for your curiosity in what will become an exciting new category in electric vehicles.   Our latest media mention

Most Respectfully,

Steve Tice

With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.

With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000, are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, he/she is limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.

Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.

StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market, or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements. To learn more about Regulation Crowdfunding, click here, and for Regulation A+, click here.
