Kyte is a technology-enabled car rental operator that offers a convenient, hassle-free customer experience by delivering cars directly to consumers for a day, a few days, or longer. Our delivery model and app allow customers to book and manage their rentals without the inconvenience, inaccessibility, and unreliability of alternative rental options. A Kyte delivery driver, known as a Kyte Surfer, delivers the car to consumers’ desired locations—homes, hotels, etc.—and picks it up when they are finished. It’s that simple.

At Kyte, we believe that getting a car for any trip longer than a rideshare should be easy. However, the reality is that whether it’s through a traditional rental company, a car-sharing/peer-to-peer rental platform, or leasing/buying, getting a car is inconvenient, inaccessible, and unreliable.

Traditional car rental services are notorious for their antiquated processes and underwhelming customer experience. On top of the inconvenience of simply getting to the office, getting a car from a rental counter typically includes long lines and relentless upsells.

Peer-to-peer car sharing options have been unable to establish a consistent, high-quality experience, since they lack control over the asset and operations. With countless small "hosts," each trip is different, and the experience is outside the control of the marketplace operator.

And finally, owning or leasing a car presents myriad challenges and frustrations, while binding one to a costly, long-term commitment. From the initial visit to the dealership to the ongoing maintenance, the perpetual hunt for parking, and the inevitable surprise expenses, opting to get one’s own car comes with frustration and a substantial price tag.

We identified a distinct market gap for consumer-focused innovation in the car rental industry. In response, we built a vertically integrated solution focused on excellence across the digital and physical spaces (the “bits and the atoms”) of the business:

Digital Spaces/Bits: Our technology platform not only powers an amazing customer experience, but also consumer growth across integrations with our massive distribution partners (Priceline, Hopper, Kayak, Expedia). We also built an in-house operational and fleet management platform to power risk, pricing, and matching engines, while managing thousands of vehicles and tens of thousands of trips a month.

Physical Spaces/Atoms: Kyte has built the fleet and operations muscle to purchase cars directly from OEMs, finance them through scalable asset-backed financing with Tier 1 banks and run tight on-the-ground operations from our centralized Kyte hubs in every market.

Over the last decade, we have seen several changes in the transportation landscape that have opened up a door for Kyte. The business is targeting the growing urban, non-airport rental car market, which makes up about half of the overall rental car industry. Typically, these are residents in dense metropolitan areas who do not own one or more vehicles and are seeking flexible transportation options that make sense with their evolving lifestyles. This aligns with the broader trend of declining car ownership, particularly in cities. Kyte has penetrated less than 1% of that total addressable market (TAM). While there is significant growth potential beyond urban locals to grow into use cases such as insurance replacement, business travel, or rental options for travelers, the current focus is on the urban consumer with strong retention rates and high lifetime values.

Kyte is focused on building a profitable and sustainable business. Our business model fundamentally takes the cost out of the existing inefficient model of traditional car rental. We are eliminating staff as well as real estate and branch overhead, allowing us to achieve higher EBITDA margins at scale.

Over the past 12 months, the company has reached significant profitability milestones, including. delivering >20%+ market contribution margins in July 2024.
