Avadi is Attempting to Redesign the Internal Combustion Engine

The global paradigm shift to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) is a long-needed, critical change. Yet we believe we are still decades away from our infrastructure being capable of relying exclusively on electric motors. Despite the worldwide push towards total electrification, many major automotive companies are currently investing in internal combustion engine (ICE) technology, the primary engine type found in most vehicles today (sourcesource).

*The above image features a prototype Avadi MA-250 engine that is currently under development and not available for commercial use.

Avadi Engines is developing a revolutionary combustion engine that can be lighter, more fuel-efficient, and more eco-friendly. The patented 4-stroke, Avadi MA-250 gas engine has application potential in virtually any industry that uses combustion engines today. From cars, motorcycles, and aviation to lawn-care equipment and power generators, Avadi's mission is to redefine what an internal combustion engine can be.

*Avadi Engines is currently in the prototype phase. The above clips feature a prototype Avadi MA-250 engine that is currently under development and not available for commercial use.

The Problem

As EV Limitations are Being Addressed, Investments in ICE Technology Continue

Be it nationwide or globally, full-scale electrification faces a number of environmental obstacles which have not been addressed yet. By some estimates we could see the primary minerals exhausted within as few as 20 to 100 years (source). If we are to address the potential threat of climate change, it's vital that we simultaneously seek to improve the technologies we use today.

Avadi Engines believes the internal combustion engine is ripe for new developments that result in greater efficiencies and a cleaner operating unit - and most of the major industry players agree. OEMS such as Toyota, Yamaha, Volvo, Cummins, and Westport have made significant investments into new ICE technology despite mounting pressure to move exclusively towards EVs (source, source). This continued focus indicates the staying power of combustion engines these companies are expecting to see.

We believe Avadi can  successfully co-exist with the continued advancement of electric vehicles and that our technology has the potential to deliver on the expectations of this next generation of engine

The Solution

A Lightweight, Eco-friendly Combustion Engine that Won’t Sacrifice Power

The Avadi MA-250 will use a combination of piston engine mechanics and our patented twin-rod internal rotation technology. As piston motion occurs, the two rods move in a scissor-like fashion, coupling rotating pinion gears to a fixed ring gear to provide power to the shaft. We believe this is an engineering breakthrough that can exponentially increase torque by creating a gear reduction  at the shaft.

*Avadi Engines is currently in the prototype phase. The above clip features a 3D rendering of the Avadi MA-250 engine which is currently under development and not available for commercial use.

This mechanism rotates the fan blades for air-cooling and balances the shaft to reduce vibration. Because the intake and exhaust mechanism are located at the top of the cylinder, the need for a traditional valve train is eliminated, creating a smaller form factor and requiring fewer parts. Perhaps most importantly though, Avadi’s internal rotation creates properties of self-balancing that simply are not possible in a traditional combustion engine where piston and shaft movement are perpendicular to one another. We believe this is a physical engineering breakthrough that sets Avadi apart from any ICE available today.

*The above image features a prototype Avadi MA-250 engine that is currently under development and not available for commercial use.

Our innovative new engine can use fewer parts and less raw materials to manufacture, which allows us to benefit from lower overhead costs. This efficiency can also save us on manufacturing, assembly, shipping, and inventory costs, thus increasing our margins.

We plan to apply this generation of the Avadi engine to mid-range sized drones and UAVs. These industries will allow us to get smaller batch feedback from high-margin industries until we are ready to scale our technology to bigger industries such as military drones, agriculture, and automobiles.

*The above image features a prototype Avadi MA-250 engine that is currently under development and not available for commercial use.

The Market

Our Breakthrough Design Can Impact Dozens of Industries

The global market for combustion engines alone is currently over $55 billion, and it is expected to rise above $70 billion before 2030 (source). Due to the lightweight nature and comparable power output of the MA-250, we see potential for our technology to be deployed across a number of industries including agricultural, aviation, military, and automotive.

As governments throughout the world are pushing for greener power sources, internal combustion engines will continue to touch the lives of practically every human in the industrialized world for generations to come. Avadi believes that our technology can successfully co-exist with future electric motor and EV developments as either a range extending generator, or as a hybrid solution for electric-powered consumer, industrial, and military applications.

Our Traction

CES Buzz Generated, International Patents Secured

Avadi turned heads and made waves at one of the world's largest and most influential electronics expo, the CES 2022 tradeshow in Las Vegas. The MA-250 engine garnered interest from executives and engineers from some of the biggest automotive, engineering, and ICE companies.

Outside of our CES success, we have four patents secured on the Avadi engine in the US, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, and are patent-pending in Australia, Japan, Korea, China, and dozens of other countries covered by the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty). We also recently moved our small shop location from Quebec, Canada to be closer to our headquarters in Yakima, Washington. Here is the breakdown

Revolutionary Design

Avadi Engines is developing a revolutionary combustion enginethat can be lighter, more fuel-efficient, and more eco-friendly. The patented 4-stroke, Avadi MA-250 gas engine has application potential in virtually any industry that uses combustion engines today. From cars, motorcycles, and aviation to lawn-care equipment and power generators, Avadi's mission is to redefine what an internal combustion engine can be.

The Breakdown:

The single Avadi piston uses a pair of connecting rods rather than just one. As piston motion occurs, the two rods move in a scissor-like fashion. Each rod is independently connected to a pinion gear at the bottom-end and those two gears rotate on a fixed ring gear attached to the crank case. The “fixed” ring-gear essentially is the only primary mechanical component that does not rotate. The piston, the cylinder, the connecting rods—and essentially all of the internal parts… with the exception of that fixed ring gear—rotate. Those two connecting rods and their corresponding pinion gears reside in what we call a “halfshaft.”

While the half-shaft can be likened to the heart of the Avadi design, it is essentially the housing where up-and-down piston motion is translated to rotational motion. It is fixed to the output shaft that extends from the back of the engine and is connected to the final drive component being powered.

Avadi’s rotational motion affords physical capabilities that are unique to internal combustion engine technology. Beyond what is mentioned above, the ratio of the rotating gear-set (the two pinion gears and their relation to the fixed ring-gear) provides a reduction to the output shaft, which exponentially increases torque. That same motion also rotates the fan blades for air-cooling and provides an inherent balancing effect which reduces vibration

Avadi Engines Attends SEMA 2022 Where Internal Combustion Power Dominates

The 2022 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) show wrapped up in Las Vegas, NV on November 4th.

Dale Renner, Avadi’s V.P. of Project Development spent the week on-site to see the latest trends, tools and technology in all sectors of the automotive aftermarket industry.

“SEMA is an industry-only convention (not open the the general public) catering to the massive aftermarket in all-things related to hot rods, racing, off-road, OEM and custom car, truck and bike builders,” says Renner.

“It’s important that Avadi keeps its finger on the pulse of automotive trends… especially now as shift in the industry are taking place,” continues Renner. “And I have to say… while electric vehicles get a ton of press these days, at SEMA, you’d almost think EVs didn’t exist. Sure, there were a handful of incredible electric retro-fits in some classic cars (including an amazing version of the legendary Shelby Cobra!) but the venerable internal combustion absolutely dominated SEMA for 2022.

Dale was fortunate enough to connect with some racing legends during his trip… including “The King” Richard Petty (who Renner has actually known for several years), and 2009 Formula One World Champion, Jensen Button, fresh from his duties at the USGP in Texas and last weeks’ Mexican Grand Prix from Mexico City as a Sky Sports F1 commentator.

“The true stars of every SEMA Show are the cars trucks and bikes on display”, says Renner. “And while SEMA is an incredible adventure for a car-guy like me, we continue to explore new markets and industry trends in our quest to bring the amazing Avadi engine to the wide variety of sectors around the globe.

"The dyno testing that we did was really harsh on the motor and it withstood everything"

“The work we are doing is very challenging. It requires a great deal of precision work in many areas of expertise. Machining, metallurgy or material science, combustion science, CFD… they all play critical roles in creating a new technology like this. To control what is essentially a bomb, exploding thousands of times per minute, is no joke.“ -CEO Landon Wilkinson

“I’m really impressed with the engine… the whole concept. The dyno testing that we did was really harsh on the motor and it withstood everything. Dependability was great, it starts up great. Having something like this on paper and then turning it into something mechanical is incredible. With 16 hp and 22-foot pounds of torque, and efficiency was… 42%. At this stage of the project, that’s amazing.”

Avadi Engines Announces Approval of Fifth Patent

Avadi Engines Announces Approval of Fifth Patent

The Avadi team is proud to announce that South Korea has approved the company's fifth patent on its unique internal combustion engine technology. This adds to their growing patent portfolio which includes the United States, Canada, Singapore and Taiwan.

“Securing another patent for a global technology that has been in existence for 125 years with such a broad intellectual property footprint is no easy feat” says Dale Renner, Avadi’s V.P. for Program Development. “And many of those patent applications have been submitted by some of the largest technology and manufacturing companies in the world.

“There is pushback from patent examiners, which is typical in such a long-standing industry with so many variations on a theme,” continues Renner, “but so far, between our internal efforts and those of our patent counsel, Benoit Côté of Montreal, Quebec, we have yet to be denied a patent. This achievement is due to the fact that Avadi’s engineering technology is truly unique in this $400 billion global marketplace.”

The Avadi team anticipates a handful of new patent approvals over the next several months, including China, Mexico, India and Japan… and our PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) application covering nearly all of Europe, the U.K. and many other countries is proceeding nicely. As action-order requests begin to come in from various PCT countries, we’ll carefully select those who provide the greatest value and protection capabilities for the company.

"Work began on some of these patent applications as far back as 2015," says Renner, "and we take great pride in seeing them finally achieve fully granted status."

09.07.22

Our engine is 30% more fuel efficient

The 4-stroke, Avadi MA-250 gas engine has been designed with the principle of minimalism and simplicity, effectively re-imagining everything about a traditional piston-driven internal combustion engine. The result is a dynamically superior power unit.

This patented engine design has a single-cylinder with a self-centering rotating piston connected to a pair of counter-rotating, self-balancing connecting rods. The connecting rods’ scissor-like action efficiently translates the piston’s vertical stroke into rotational movement without a traditional crankshaft-based powertrain, placing minimal side pressure on the cylinder wall—meaning less friction, heat and wear.

The counterweighted cams balance each other resulting in much less vibration than a traditional internal combustion engine. Avadi’s innovative intake and exhaust system utilizes the rotational movement of the powertrain to eliminate the need for a traditional camshaft driven valve-train. The result of this unique design is a vast reduction in the number of moving parts—and a light, efficient, compact, and powerful engine.

You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
