Reasons to Invest

We are creating the most accessible technology-based solutions to address one of the most tragic social problems of our time. Rapid response ends active shooter threats sooner and saves lives.
With our incredibly affordable, efficient and easy-to-use gunshot detectors, we are perfectly positioned to disrupt the multi-billion dollar gunfire detection market
Our unparalleled smart detector technology includes three sensors (noise, shock and muzzle flash) and delivers real time gunfire monitoring in a continuously updated gunfire detection model, with firearm type reporting, continuous direct digital connection to 9-1-1, all communications native to the system, and cloud-based machine learning analysis of data.

Using Gunfire Detection to Save Lives

At Safe Zone Technologies, we created a cost-effective and accessible lifesaving alert system that significantly cuts down response times to active shootings. Our detectors are discretely installed throughout buildings such as schools, houses-of-worship, offices, stores, and government buildings to instantly detect gunfire.

Within seconds of the first shots, our tri-mode sensors and artificial intelligence system relay real time data to the authorities including shot locations, number of shots and type of firearm. Shot locations and times are mapped over a building floor plan, providing law enforcement with critical intel on the movement of the shooter.

By guiding authorities to the shooter’s location and significantly reducing response times, Safe Zone saves lives and makes our communities safer.

As Shootings Increase, Uncertainty and Slow Response Times Cost Lives

ass shootings are no longer isolated incidents. 2021 is on pace for 700 mass shootings. That’s almost twice the number in 2019 and has tragically been growing every year since the University of Texas shooting in 1966.

Most indoor gunfire detection systems are expensive, complicated and difficult to maintain.  This leaves millions of unprotected facilities where it is difficult for law enforcement to respond quickly. First responders must determine the location of an active shooter in buildings with many rooms or multiple floors, spending precious minutes clearing each room. After the shooting starts, the critically injured have a 7-10% less chance of survival with every minute that passes.

Cost-Efficient, Easy to deploy, Life-Saving Gunfire Detection Technology

We developed technology to detect gunfire onsite as soon as it happens, immediately alerting law enforcement authorities and tracking the shooter’s location room by room in order to reduce response times and save lives.

Safezone’s AI driven and patented technology provides:

1. Full facility floor plan with address, room layout, shooter locations, and number of shots fired provide first law enforcement first responders with actionable intelligence to engage faster with more effectiveness, ending the threat sooner.

2. Identification of the type of firearm (rifle vs pistol) so that law enforcement and/or SWAT can be properly  protected and select an appropriate staging distance for initial operations.

3. Cloud based technology to eliminate the unreliability and maintenance problems with local computational hardware. The most recent, accurate detection model and fastest analysis are available seamlessly to all customers all of the time.

4. Real time push notifications to law enforcement, onsite security/administration, as well as any occupants authorized through the Safezone mobile app.

Creating safety for our kids at less than $7 per student per year

Safezone gunfire detectors are extremely small at less than 2.5 inches per side, ceiling mounted, and contain three critical sensing technologies (acoustic, shock and muzzle flash). As one of the only providers with cloud based machine learning analysis of this tri-mode sensing capability, Safezone sets a new standard for reliability in indoor gunfire monitoring.

Each detector covers a volume of approximately the typical classroom size (30ft x 30ft x 10ft). Where more expensive competitive solutions often economically force customers to choose a few areas to protect, the Safezone solution is priced to protect your entire facility - from the back door to the front, not just the lobby and executive offices.

Once installed, there is no additional maintenance. The motionless, silent detectors have a single green LED that pulses once per minute to let occupants know the Safezone system is at the ready 24/7/365 to summon law enforcement.

Our Business Model

Designed for low voltage power and wireless communication, the detectors are easily installed by local security or AV dealers.  The detectors are stocked in local branches of national distributors like ADI, WESCO and Anixter at ⅓ to 1/10 the cost of competitive systems.

Safe Zone is a Software as a Service (SaaS) business model with a hardware gateway that locks in customers. This is the same strategy as companies like Ring and Nest.

Our Safe Zone certified Dealers resell the Detectors to end users making profit three ways:

  1. Sale of the Detector Hardware
  2. Installation of the Detector Hardware
  3. Share of the recurring revenue for monitoring services

Revolutionizing a Fast-Growing Market

unfire detection is a multi-billion dollar market predicted to grow at a 25% annual rate to over $7 billion in 2026.
Market studies identify the prohibitively high cost of the detection equipment and complicated systems maintenance as two of  the most significant barriers to even larger market growth. Safe Zone breaks that barrier with costs as much as 70% less than competitors - with better technology that is simple to install and requires no computer or IT maintenance.

Other available gunshot detection systems are built upon last-century technology developed originally for the military.  While they do work, they are complicated, expensive and difficult to maintain. The high cost results in compromised systems with too few detectors to properly protect a space.

According to our research, Safe Zone’s patented technology is disruptive to the industry in many ways:

  • Affordable tri-mode sensing of acoustic sensor, 3-axis concussion measurement, and spectral analysis of muzzle flash
  • Cloud-based deep machine learning analysis of data, even from multiple detectors as a single event signature
  • Reports firearm type and the location of multiple shooters with different firearm types
  • Always directly connected to 911 dispatch centers with exclusive partner RapidSOS  complete digital reporting network
  • Lowest cost to install and lowest cost of ownership of any available indoor gunshot detection system

Proven Technology and Strong Partnerships

Our product has proven performance with over 1 million detector hours of operation in schools, offices, retail and government buildings.

Safezone has signed distribution contracts with three of the nation’s largest and most reputable security and electrical distributors: ADI, WESCO, Anixter, who provide over 1,500 distributor branches nationally serving over 100,000 local dealers.

Additionally, nearly 2,000 local dealers and installers have become Safezone certified through our proprietary online product/installation learning portal.

We have already invested over $3 million over 4 years into the development of the industry's most advanced detector and cloud based AI for accurately and reliably monitoring indoor gunfire at a fraction of competitor costs.

Saving Minutes to Save Lives

Active shooters have been a major issue in our society for decades and continue to grow with no end in sight.

Our technology provides an accessible way to improve our law enforcement response in a faster, safer way to mitigate the damages these events cause.

Our vision provides the safety and confidence of more than a billion detector Safezones over the next 5 years. This breakthrough technology allows accesible gunfire detection and automated RapidSOS alert to 911 for every school, office, store and government building. We all deserve the protection and rapid response to end threats sooner.

With our disruptive technology we project to install more detectors in a single year than all the other indoor gunfire competitors combined, making rapid response to gunfire the standard rather than a luxury only a few mega-corporations can afford.

We have spent years perfecting our technology, and now we are ready to disrupt the multi-billion dollar gunfire detection market, reduce response times, and save lives.

Join us as we embrace the accessible technological solution for automatically detecting active shooter events, responding quickly and helping to build a safer world.

Guiding Light Patent Now Issued

We previously let you know about the Notice of Allowance for our patent #US20210012629A1 "Firearm Discharge Detecting and Semaphoring System and Method".  This patent protects our system for guiding building occupants away from danger and to safety during an emergency.  That patent has now been issued and we would like to share more about what it is, and why we think it's an incredibly important technology.

Think of the Guiding Light as a traffic signal that is activated during an emergency event.  This could be an active shooter, or a fire, or some other incident.  The signals are placed above doors and at the intersections of hallways.  The system tracks the location of the threat, calculates the shortest path to a "Safe Zone" with a safe margin around the threat, and directs the occupants on that path to safety.  This is accomplished through red and green lights on the devices.  Red means avoid that direction, green means it is safe.  Follow the green lights to safety while avoiding the red.  If the occupants are in a room with a green light above the door, them it is safe to exit the room.  Once in the hallway, look for the green light and head that way.  Simple and easy to understand.  If the light above the door is red, look for another exit, or shelter in place.

The idea for Guiding Light first came to us when we were hearing about active shooter drills in schools causing injury to students and teachers.  Not to mention the amount of trauma experienced by the students during one of these exercises.  We wondered why the exercises needed to be so harsh.  Fire drills are executed all the time, the students exit the building in an orderly fashion - no one is injured or traumatized.  The "experts" all said those were different and the actions needed during the events were not the same.  Active shooters tend to move, and fires are usually localized.  We came up with a better way.

Now the training for a fire drill will serve both purposes.  Simply teach students to follow the traffic lights - no trauma, less stress, and intuitively simple.

The system is affordable, works with our gunfire detection system, or any existing fire alarm.

At Safe Zone we're saving lives.

A Disturbing Trend

We're beginning to see school administrators being held accountable for not taking reasonable precautions before shooting incidents.  While these lawsuits may not result in payouts, the cost of defending them runs into the millions.

It's critical that school administrators do everything they can to protect their students.  Gunshot detection systems are affordable and save lives.  The fact that the systems are readily available places a responsibility on school officials to explore them as an option and install systems where practical.  The cost of not doing so is incredibly high.

2022 will be a breakout year!

Like most people, we're really looking forward to putting the last year in the rearview mirror.  2022 is going to be the breakout year for Safe Zone and indications are that January will come out of the gates strong!  Multiple new projects are on the horizon, and we will be sharing information about those as we are able to do so.

We want to say thanks to everyone that has enabled us to get here and wish everyone a prosperous new year.

Active Shooter Training can be Dangerous

Active shooters are a major concern for schools, businesses and houses of worship.  To prepare a response for these incidents, “Active Shooter Training” is conducted, often with less than desirable results.  Here are a few examples of training exercises gone wrong:

Active Shooter Training Injures City Worker in Florida | Florida News | US News

Indiana teachers injured during active-shooter training - Bing video

Active Shooter Drill Gone Wrong Causes Panic at Maryland Hospital - Campus Safety (

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence.

Safe Zone has a better way.

With the issue of our latest patent, Safe Zone will be introducing Guiding Light.  Think of it as a traffic light that activates during an emergency event – active shooters or fires for example.  Simple, intuitive traffic lights are provided above doors and at hallway intersections.  In the event of an emergency, follow the green lights to safety and away from the threat areas.  If the light above a door is green, it’s safe to go through the door, then look for the next green light.  If the light above the door is red, do not go through the door.  The system will update status as the threat moves.  People are moved to “Safe Zones” in the quickest way possible, significantly reducing their risk during these incidents.  This is also a benefit to police and firefighters, as the system will lead them directly to the issue.

Guiding light works with Safe Zone’s gunshot detectors and interfaces with all major fire alarm, access control and other systems.

Now, a routine emergency response drill prepares everyone for an emergency incident, eliminating the risk and panic of overly aggressive training.

New Online Learning System

We are really excited about our new product training.  A new site with new, more comprehensive content that incorporates everything we've learned over the last couple of years.  The new training is built to address the most frequent questions we received from installers and addresses those issues directly to improve the whole process.  Safe Zone will be even easier than before.

While the site is expected to be live right after the new year (meaning it will link from our regular website), you can preview the site here:

Take a look.  What the heck, sign up and take the first course "Introduction to Safe Zone".  It's not too technical and will answer all your questions about how the system works and helps save lives.

Effectiveness of "Hardening" schools limited

The desire to keep kids safe has spawned a multibillion-dollar industry promising to turn schools into fortresses.  It's not preventing the spread of mass shootings.  Oxford High School is a prime example of that effort.

Surgeon General Public Advisory

In a rare public advisory, the U.S. surgeon general urges the nation to address failing mental health among young people. “Our obligation to act is not just medical — it’s moral,” Murthy notes in the introduction. The report offers numerous recommendations to public health officials, advocates, government, educators, media, and other stakeholders, and urges the entire nation to take action.

Safe Zone Technologies is helping to help speed effective first response to active and mass shooting tragedies.

A frequent question

One of the questions we often hear is “Why do you recommend so many more detectors in my building than your competitors do?”

Let’s address the implied part of that question first. The laws of physics are the same for all gunshot detectors.  Sound works the same way for everyone, with consistent amplitude and decay characteristics in a given environment.  The same is true for the visual component of a muzzle flash.  The detector must “see” the gunshot to effectively use the information – that means line of sight to the firearm (in some applications reflections can extend the effective sensor range but are not as dependable as direct line of sight).  Most gunshot detectors on the market use these two components of the firearm discharge to identify a gunshot.  The bottom line is that any of the major gunshot detector systems can function in a given application and space.  In fact, the effective range specification of the available gunshot detectors is essentially the same. Differences between systems are how the data is managed and communicated to stakeholders.

At Safe Zone we want to save as many lives as possible.  It’s understandable that more detectors in a space will deliver more information to law enforcement, especially when tracking an active shooter’s movements.  The higher density of detectors will provide redundancy in the event of an incident, improving reliability.  With the cost of Safe Zone so low relative to competitors, adding more detectors just makes sense.  However, if budget is a limiting factor, and it is acceptable to forego the extra protection, you can feel safe installing the same number of detectors knowing that the functionality of the system will be the same.

Gunshot Detection is more affordable than you think

We had a question about the cost of a  gunshot detection system for a school.  I was unable to upload an actual image of our example cost chart, so I thought to include it in an update.  Here's the chart:

As you can see from these real-world examples, the cost to most schools is less than $7.00 per student per year for the first four years.  Subsequent years are even less since the hardware and installation is already full amortized.

A Second Patent

We just got notification of allowance on our patent: "Firearm Discharge Detecting and Semaphoring System".  That clears the way for our next product: Guiding Light.  Think of this as a traffic light for people during an emergency situation that guides them on a safe exit path (avoiding the danger areas) to a safe zone, either inside or outside the building.  The system interfaces with our gunshot detection system or fire alarm and security systems to function any time an evacuation is necessary for safety.
