REASONS TO INVEST

The Global Sun Protection Clothing Market was estimated at $7B in 2021. This is currently a fractured market with no dominant brand. With demand from North American and Asian Pacific regions increasing, there is great opportunity for Sun50 to capitalize.*

In 2021, our annual sales increased 135% over the previous year. We’re proud to have a dedicated repeat customer base, with a return customer rate of 28%.

Sun50 uses premium sun protection fabrics that are certified eco-friendly, sustainable, and chemical-free. Each fabric has been third-party UV tested for UPF, ATSM, & AATCC rating standards and 100% of our apparel is designed & made in the USA. Sun50’s clothing has also been granted The Skin Cancer Seal of Recommendation.

Stylish, high-performance clothing made to protect against skin cancer.

Sun50 is on a mission to reduce the incidence of skin cancer through our line of stylish, soft, and lightweight sun protective clothing. Our products are known for their high-quality, flattering fit, trusted performance, and all-day comfort, separating us from competitors who we believe miss the mark.

We have been officially recognized by The Skin Cancer Foundation for achieving superior sun protection (UPF 50+) from both UVA and UVB rays, and it’s clear we’ve also resonated with our audience, as revenue has increased by 135% over 2020 sales (as of 3rd quarter 2021).

(source)

Driven by our dedication to providing appealing, high-end options that use eco-friendly fabrics, we ethically manufacture 100% of our apparel here in the USA.

The Sun50 leadership team has over 40+ years of combined experience in the sun protective clothing industry. Our proven and successful team has long-standing relationships with the American Academy of Dermatology, The Skin Cancer Foundation, The Claire Marie Foundation, and other organizations related to the prevention of skin cancer. We’re passionate about promoting skin cancer awareness, aiming to increase prevention and early detection. Our goal is to become the largest, most successful brand in the sun protection clothing industry.

In addition to donating a portion of our proceeds, our team proudly collaborates with several non-profits who share our mission and seek to amplify skin checks, sun protection, and slow fashion.

The Problem

The reality is people aren’t taking skin cancer seriously enough.

(source)

One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, and every hour someone dies from melanoma in the US (source). Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the US, and rates are on the rise, both in the US and worldwide, with about 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun (source).

(source)

While there’s a growing public awareness of the serious consequences of compounded UV exposure, not enough protective measures are being taken to safeguard our skin and health. Now, with the ongoing realities of climate change and our depleting ozone, additional precautions are becoming more important to ensure safety from the sun.

(source)

There remains a lot of consumer misconception due to a lack of high-quality products and general awareness around the need for sun protective clothing.

(source)

Existing brands use low-quality fabrics which are heavy, scratchy, and/or uncomfortable to wear. Some of these fabrics are treated with chemical enhancements that only offer temporary sun protection—a short-lived benefit that is diluted after clothes are washed. To compound the problem, available styles are dated, ill-fitting, and out of sync with current fashion trends.

How can we expect people to be excited about sun-protective clothing if they don't look and feel great in what they're wearing? At Sun50, we make sun protection clothing desirable.

The Solution

Sun50 delivers superior fabrics, style, and sun protection.

According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, sun-protective clothing is the most effective preventative measure against skin aging and skin cancer. Sun50 is bringing awareness to the cause by combining our high-performance, quality materials with professionally-designed styles catered to modern consumer demographics.

Sun50 fabrics are constructed with naturally sun-protective materials, meaning our products undergo no chemical treatment to achieve their UPF rating. We work with our fabric mills and third-party testing professionals to create fabrics with the ideal material blend and construction weave to achieve optimum performance. This superior sun protection from both UVA and UVB rays earned us recognition from The Skin Cancer Foundation, who awarded us with The Skin Cancer Seal of Recommendation for meeting their stringent criteria ( source).

Our range of women’s and men’s high-fashion products includes easy-to-wear styles ideal for home, travel or exploration, as well as a variety of sun-protective accessories including hats, sleeves, and scarves. We sell direct-to-consumer through our website, both domestically and internationally, as well as through Amazon, Bikini.com, and via wholesale retail accounts in Minnesota and Florida. We also work closely with our production teams in both California and Minnesota to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and shorten production times.

The Market

With no clear industry leader, we’re ready to take over the market.

The global sun protective clothing market was worth $6.6B in 2020 and was estimated at $7.1B in 2021. At a CAGR of 7.68% from 2020 to 2026, the market is expected to surpass $10.3B by 2026. (source)

(sourcesource)

With no dominant leader in the market, there is a huge opportunity to own this space. We see other brands’ offerings as off-trend, ill-fitting, and failing to meet the quality and environmental standards that consumers demand.

Thanks to our superior product and combination of extensive industry experience, Sun50 is uniquely positioned to fill the current gaps left by our competitors. We’re dedicated to chemical-free solutions and reducing our carbon footprint, sourcing only high-quality sustainable fabrics to make our products right here in the USA. As a high-end brand, our customers believe in Sun50 because they trust the integrity and long-lasting value of our fabrics.

Equally important is our commitment to elevating skin cancer awareness and prevention. By working with partners, survivors, and medical professionals in the skin cancer community, we’re able to power our mission and help reduce the incidence of skin cancer.

Our Traction

A proven track record with glowing testimonials.

Sun50 has achieved a number of important victories and milestones in the past two years. Since starting in 2020, we’ve increased sales quarter over quarter, and in 2021, our annual sales increased 135% over the previous year.

Our website traffic is in the top 2% of stores that launched on Shopify in September 2020, and we’re proud to have a dedicated repeat customer base, with a repeat customer rate of 28%.

"Feels like second skin!"

"This shirt is a MUST HAVE!!! Oh my goodness, the quality is outrageously good and feels so luxurious against the skin. I love that as a melanoma survivor, I can feel confident sitting poolside or lakeside knowing my skin is adequately protected while looking polished and put together. ☀️☀️☀️"

Allison Crandall, 06/25/2021 (Beach Shirt UPF 50+)

"Better than wearing sleeves!"

"I purchased the white long sleeve polo. I normally wear sun protective sleeves, but decided to try a long sleeve polo. This shirt is so lightweight and breathable, it is way better than wearing any pair of sleeves that I own. The shirt is also incredibly soft."

Kyle, 04/22/2021 (Men's Long Sleeve Pique Polo Shirt UPF 50+)

"5 Star Oversized Beach Shirt!"

"The Sun50 oversized Beach Shirt is a must-have in every ladies' wardrobe. Classic style with lovely contrasting fabric on the cuffs and collar adds excellent detail. The material feels great on the skin, travels well, is lightweight and breathable. This shirt can be worn at the beach, on a hike, or to dinner. The possibilities are truly endless! P.S. I love the cute hidden message on the inside of the shirt:) such a sweet touch."

Shanna Lai, 11/25/2020 (Beach Shirt UPF 50+)

*Testimonials may not be representative of the experience of other customers and are not a guarantee of future performance or success.

Looking ahead, we’re focused on expanding our market share, growing our distribution network, and increasing brand recognition. In 2022, we have concepted and designed six new collections to be seasonally released throughout the year.

Why Invest

I am so thrilled to be an investor in Sun50 through StartEngine. As someone that grew up in Hawaii and got too much sun when I was younger, I am so happy to have found Sun50. The quality and style of the clothes is exceptional and their mission to reduce skin cancer is very dear to me.

FAQS
Crowdfunding

With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.

With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000, are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, he/she is limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.

Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.

StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market, or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements. To learn more about Regulation Crowdfunding, click here, and for Regulation A+, click here.
