After operating within the beer industry for 25 years, our team was at a crossroads.

 

We had the option to continue the expansion of our successful local brewery, or leverage our experience and industry knowledge to do something different and unique. We started looking at the hard seltzer space and noticed a startling trend… all the hard seltzers on the shelf were essentially the same product! They were all skinny, white cans with Black Cherry or Mango flavor profiles, at 5% or lower Alc/vol. No one was creating anything new or trying to explore what you could do with this beautiful beverage. Instead they were just hitting copy + paste in a feeble effort to steal some market share without any real effort. 

 

In 2019, we decided to change that. We began building a beverage that spoke to the core values we had seen in the early days of ‘craft’ beer. Our drinks have been built on a foundation of creativity, authenticity, and intention. We make true, craft hard seltzers using REAL ingredients, delicious and innovative flavors, a higher ABV, and then we use our platform to give back to supporting vulnerable animal species. With a mission to do good, make good, and be good in all that we do.


Our products are currently in development and we expect to launch our first SKUs in 2021. All products on the page will be our initial beverage line.

The Problem


Bland, canned flavors for new generations of libation-lovers who simply deserve better

Modern day consumers are smart -- they know and they expect the best of what they put in their bodies. They don’t just want to buy a 36 pack of a generic beer (or seltzer) because that’s what’s on the shelf in front of them. 

 

They want innovation and diversity through healthier, high-quality ingredients, transparency, a relatable company culture, a socially responsible brand -- all at an affordable price point. The beverages they drink are not just products, but have become a reflection of themselves and their values. The stuff on the shelves that’s full of chemicals and “natural” (really anything but) flavors just won’t cut it.

The Solution


Real ingredients, real booze, real purpose

We’re as transparent as they come and we want our consumer to see authenticity bubbling through all we do. That starts by making seltzers that we want to drink and share while creating a company that can give back in both enjoyment and in action. That’s why we start with REAL ingredients. No junk in our trunks. No added sugar, no fake “natural flavors” (how does that phrase even make sense!?). Simply aiming for an industry-created calorie-count is not enough. We have crafted a true “better-for-you-beverage.”

In order to accomplish our objectives of diversification and true craft, it couldn’t just look good and pop visually on the shelf. We had to flip the script on what everyone else is doing. Most hard seltzers are low in ABV, but in the craft world a slightly higher ABV is what’s expected, so we went with a higher octane of 6.5%. Most seltzers taste like fake flavored sparkling water (emphasis on fake and water), so we’re focused on flavor - diversifying our flavor profiles with balanced and delicious mixes of real fruit, superfoods and herbs. Our brand screams BOLD ingenuity, our packaging has been designed to catch your eye, shout ‘masterfully crafted’ flavors, vibrant colors, and hand-etched calligraphy.

Our purpose is to do your body and our world good. That’s why we support wildlife conservation efforts. Our world is getting smaller and less diverse every day. As we grow, we will dedicate a portion of every case sold to protect the endangered species of our planet that have made our universe so much more interesting and beautiful.

The Market


A skyrocketing beverage market thirsty for drinks beyond the beer

The hard seltzer and craft beverage market thrives as consumers and investors find expanding value in quality beverages. In 2019, hard seltzer sales grew by 226.4%, while total beer sales grew by less than 1% (source). Sales of hard seltzer were expected to double to $3.5 billion in 2020 and reach $6.5 billion by 2024 (source), but now those numbers have multiplied to $4.5 billion in sales in 2020 and $14.5 billion by 2026. 

The hard seltzer market is not slowing down, taking over the beverage market from its competitors in beer. What the market does not have yet is a leader in innovation and quality. 

 

Elephant Craft is building the “true craft” segment within the hard seltzer category and paving the way as the household brand for quality, real fruit seltzers with the freshest flavors. 

Our Traction


Six enticing flavors and two sizable swimming pools worth of Seltzer

We crafted and developed 6 flavor offerings for a 2021 launch and identified our key production partner who is able to bring our vision to fruition.

We’re seeing our vision grow already to popular grocery store chains. We’ve had preliminary meetings with most of the Southern CA retailers that have shown a tremendous amount of support for our beverages. So much so that we have developed relationships with not just one, but two Southern CA co-packers that can produce our products to spec. Currently, we have the capacity to produce, 40,000 barrels of liquid in just 2021 alone. That’s 550,000 cases of pure bliss!


We also have strategic partnerships in place to launch into one of the largest specialty stores nationwide AND DTC within CA and AZ starting day 1. We can’t mention names just yet, but the volume is set to be around 20,000 cases/month.


We project to be at a 22,000 bbl/year run rate by the end of 2021 and 95,000 bbl/year runway by the end of 2022. With production rates and partnerships quenched for progress, we are due to officially get into the market May 15th, 2021

What We Do


A hard seltzer created locally, driving globally positive impact

We make high-quality, ingredient-conscious, flavor forward, hard seltzers. 


With COVID-19 hitting this past year, we decided to get scrappy and take a less capital intensive approach in production. We’ve decreased our overheads and built new partnerships to enable the production of our beverages with two local (SoCal) craft breweries both of which already have all the vital equipment we need to make the highest quality beverages. This allows us to produce what we need, when we need it and scale appropriately as we grow. In addition, we get to support our craft brethren along the way. How cool is that?!

In building this business, we originally founded with the purpose of “Saving the Elephants.” We had a strong tie with a co-operation called Elephant Co-op, based out of Southern California, and we wanted to support their mission to protect the African elephant and its surrounding communities. Then we thought: “Wait, we can do more!”  Yes, we’re going to support charities like Elephant Co-Op, but we’re going to broaden our reach to endangered species as a whole. Our focus in the beverage world is to celebrate diversity in our drinks and focus on beautiful flavors…. It just makes sense that we also then seek to protect the diverse species of this amazing planet! We aim to donate 1% of all profit to conservation efforts across the planet.

The Business Model

If there’s one thing 2020 has taught us, it’s that DTC (Direct-To-Consumer) has some serious legs and that the consumer has become increasingly familiar with delivery services such as Uber Eats, Drizly, GoPuff, etc. We’re going to invest heavily in our social platforms to educate our consumer base on how they can order directly from our website as well as through these services, to bring in our delicious drinks. In tangent, we’ll also be taking the more traditional route to market through a potential Southern CA distributor. 

 

Contactless delivery of food and drink has been expedited through the needs of quarantined consumers. We’re going to bring our craft drinks directly to our customers’ casas!

With consumers being more engaged than ever with brands through social media, peer recommendations and influencer suggestions, they are asking to be empowered by information when they are making their buying decisions. Social media helps us provide that information and our brand identity in ways we’ve never been able to do before. 


We have the opportunity to create powerful brand ambassadorship through experiential marketing (putting the brand beverage in the hands of consumers, letting them try it, and then share their experience through multiple different platforms, activating our PR prowess, and creating engaging social media and influencer campaigns. We are building a HERD. There are no hard seltzer brands that are focused on a ‘brand-forward’ approach. 

We want our Elephant family to identify with not just our dedication to unique high quality beverages and fun eye popping packaging, but to also be completely aligned with our core values of do good, be good, make good. We’re building community.


When marketing and delivering directly to the consumer, we’re also able to preserve a more aggressive profit margin that is usually given up to distributors and retailers!


Slated for 2022 and beyond, we want to explore the option of building out our “Watering Hole.” This would be an on premise “seltzer bar” that would allow us to try new flavors and showcase what we’re really trying to do with the hard seltzer beverage… which is - explore EVERYTHING that can be done with this magnificent base. If you’re doing it right, hard seltzers should have a completely neutral base. What better blank canvas to play with a host of different types of flavors. We will muddle the ingredients fresh, right in front of the customer, add molasses or sarsaparilla. Experiment with low ABV, high ABV, no ABV. 


We want to showcase the beverage to the extreme and become the pioneers of true craft seltzer. 

How We Are Different


The elephant in the room

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, there’s no shortage of beverage brands throwing a random hard seltzer into their portfolio and trying to get it on the shelf. The challenge (AKA opportunity) with that is this… THEY’RE ALL THE SAME! They are likely sourcing the same base, and using the same “natural flavoring” as the can sitting next to them on the shelf. Heck, if you look at a lineup of any 10, commercial hard seltzer cans you’ll notice the trends: each using tall, white, skinny cans. Turn over the can and you’ll see that same haunting completely vague ingredient; “natural flavoring,” that could be broken down into a million different chemicals trying to trick your taste buds.

We think this is deceptive and plain wrong. If the can says it has fruit, then the drink should have real fruit and real vitamins from that fruit. It’s hard to do, and even harder to perfect, but we use only REAL ingredients. Turn the can over and you’ll see raspberries, grapefruit, lime, sage, mint, ginger… the list goes on. We take an authentic and thoughtful approach to EVERY drink.


So to sum it up, we believe Elephant Craft is distinguished by our purpose-driven ethos, fun vibrant brand, and our steadfast determination to bring the highest quality craft hard seltzers to the market at an affordable price.


Our in-house mixologist and brew-team work in tandem to craft balanced beverages exploding with flavor, creating a crucial edge over the competition with a higher alcohol content to punch out other mousy seltzers in the market.

The Vision


Elephant as the biggest, boldest migration in craft hard seltzer

We want to establish Elephant as the premier innovator in craft hard seltzer, so much so that we’re in a category of our own of truly unique craft seltzers. In year one, we will explore and dominate the DTC and potential self-distribution environment in Southern California -- building local, unbeatable brand loyalty and ambassadorship. In doing so, we plan to show consistent love to our local herd through relentless PR and experiential marketing.


In year two, we will expand to 3 new markets: Arizona, Nevada and our friends in Northern California as well as exploring our “Watering Hole” concept. Moving forward from there, we plan to expand in mostly coastal areas, but we’ll focus on where the pull is. We want to build deep and local, as opposed to an immediate shotgun, national approach.

We plan to integrate into traditional distribution models along the way, building out our very own cost-efficient production facility by the end of 2022.


Our growth is driven through diving  deep within each of our existing markets, increasing brand ambassadorship and creating higher “turn off the shelf.” If we create the demand first, when we get to the market the pull will be higher, the marketing less expensive, and the buyers will be eager to bring us in: more SKUs, more revenue, higher volume.

After his time as President of Towne Park Brewery Stephen has taken on the role of CEO of Elephant Craft Hard Seltzer and is elated to parlay his success in the craft beer world to lead higher expectations in the new frontier of "Craft Hard Seltzer!" When he's not making the world better one seltzer at a time, Stephen is all about family, friends, and fun. Catch him on the slopes, in the ocean, or traveling.

Ian Knowles is a CPG veteran with over a decade of strategy, investment and operational experience. He is the founder of Spruce & Norton, a beverage/CPG focused, venture development firm that assists investors, strategic buyers and entrepreneurs on business optimization; including overall business strategy, revenue growth, profit improvement, finance and M&A. He also served as the co-founder and managing partner of Dunn's River Brands, previous owners of Sweet Leaf Tea, Tradewinds Tea and Temple Turmeric and helped lead strategy for the launch of Legacy Breweries, which previously acquired Ninkasi Brewing Co., Laurelwood Brewing and Aspen Brewing Co. Over the last decade, Ian has run diligence on over 300 Alc/Non-Alc Beverage companies and remains an active strategist and advisor for many Beverage and CPG brands. After coming together with friends and industry veterans Brett Lawrence and Stephen Young, the group was inspired to do something different. After identifying a gap in the market for a fun, premium and natural craft hard seltzer...an Elephant was born! As the acting CEO of Rancho Las Lomas, Orange County’s renowned private estate and event venue, he has opened various profitable revenue streams and broadened the property's paths to prosperity. Among his notable projects is Towne Park Brewery, which he started in his garage in 2015 ultimately expanding to a 20,000-square-foot brewery and tap room in 2017. As he embarks on this next venture, he is able to apply his multitude of experience in business operations and ownership to Elephant Craft.

With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.

With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000, are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, he/she is limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.

Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.

StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market, or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
