Ken has spent over 15 years creating wins for globally recognized beverage companies including Anchors Brewers & Distillers (sold to Sapporo), Gruppo Campari, Treasury Wine Estates, and Young’s Market Company. Much of that time was spent around craft spirits, cocktail culture, and mixology. As an advisor and investor, Ken has guided many founder-led emerging beverage companies towards growth and maturity with his wealth of diverse category experience across many food & beverage verticals.

Ken works approximately 3 hours per week as Board Chairman for BASECAMP Consulting Group, and 1 hour per week as Managing Partner for Flywheel Strategic Partners in addition to his 40 hours per week in his role with Drink Monday.

The 10% StartEngine Owners' Bonus

Drink Monday, Inc. will offer 10% additional bonus shares for all investments that are committed by investors that are eligible for the StartEngine Crowdfunding Inc. OWNer's bonus.

This means eligible StartEngine shareholders will receive a 10% bonus for any shares they purchase in this offering. Chapter 2 - DTC goes IRL

As a follow on from an earlier campaign update (Chapter 1 - Origin & DTC), I’m excited to tell you more about our brick-and-mortar strategy. 

So why after building a successful DTC (direct-to-consumer) brand, is Monday pivoting to retail, bars, and restaurants?  

👉 Profitability 

Growing a DTC business isn’t profitable until you reach scale. In fact it’s become increasingly more expensive to acquire and retain customers online in the past two years. We recognize that our digital channels are essential for our brand and loyal consumer base, but in order to be profitable we must open and expand the brick-and-mortar channel where our contribution margin is much higher compared to DTC. 

👉 Scale 

Building on profitability, we need scale. By expanding into retail, we’re partnering with distributors in various markets. Collectively those distributors have thousands of salespeople and service tens of thousands accounts across the country. The cost of scaling this channel is much less compared to DTC and we’re exponentially growing our brand reach with in-real-life brand champions.

Along the way to profitability and scale, we must keep Brand center to everything we do. Our brand - Drink Monday - is the value we’re building as a business. Our goal is to seek institutional investment and eventually an exit, in order to be attractive we must have a standout brand.

Now, over here at Monday we have been able to build revenue up to $9 million in just three years WITHOUT using any traditional distributors. We’ve reached more than 100,000 households who know our brand, who love our liquid, who are ready to buy Monday where they eat, drink, and shop.

Our Mezcal packs a punch, whether you’re making a spicy margarita, paloma, or a bloody maria, you’re in for a good time. 

This Cinco we’re excited to highlight our partnership with the iconic mixer brand, Fever Tree. They’re celebrating the launch of new cocktail mixers - Margarita and Bloody Mary - in NYC with their notorious Fever Tree Cocktail Truck

They will be serving Monday Mezcal in a Bloody Maria (recipe below)

  • 2 oz Monday Mezcal
  • 4 oz Fever Tree Bloody Mary Mix
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire
  • 4-5 dashes Tabasco (to taste)
  • Pink celery salt
  • Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive juice
  • Squeeze of lemon & lime

Combine ingredients and cocktail shaker with ice. Give a gentle shake to combine. Strain over ice into cocktail glass. Add your garnishes.

I own a bar/restaurant/indoor golf club in Madison, WI. We have one of the largest N/A bar programs in the state. If an Equity Financing occurs before this instrument terminates in accordance with Sections 1(b)-(d) (“First Equity Financing”), the Company shall promptly notify the Investor of the closing of the First Equity Financing and of the Company’s discretionary decision to either (1) continue the term of this Crowd SAFE without converting the Purchase Amount to Capital Stock; or (2) issue to the Investor a number of shares of the CF Shadow Series of the Capital Stock (whether Preferred Stock or another class issued by the Company) sold in the First Equity Financing. The number of shares of the CF - 2 - Shadow Series of such Capital Stock shall equal the quotient obtained by dividing (x) the Purchase Amount by (y) the First Equity Financing Price.

I suspect distribution to retailers has some challenges, being outside the heavily regulated spirits category, but probably perceived by many as some kind of spirit. With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.

With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000, are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, he/she is limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.

Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
