Campus Protein was born out of necessity in a dorm room at Indiana University. We went on to win first place in a “shark tank-style” business competition, where we took home $100,000 to start the business. The funding was from prominent investors including the CEO of CareerBuilder.com, CEO of Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud, and several others.

By combining our technology with the Campus Sales Rep program we’ve created a seamless experience for students. You can text your peers about supplement-related questions, get true, honest, unfiltered feedback, and then purchase your products right from our website. Because of our unique setup and technology we can have orders delivered to 90% of the United States within 2 days. 

Student-focused health & wellness is a neglected niche

There is a large gap in the market for a health and wellness marketplace aimed at serving college students. Currently, online stores provide an overwhelming and confusing customer experience, while traditional retail stores are outdated and overpriced. Sales associates have a hard time relating to the needs of a college student. They tend to use pushy sales tactics to take advantage of an age group that is just learning about these products.

In other words, we do the homework for the customer by only carrying the most suitable products for students. Our on-the-ground college sales representatives are trained on our products and customer service, while our online platform and marketplace handles the logistics and delivery.

Campus Protein is structured as a technology and marketing company. Our proprietary technology uses an algorithm to discover the optimal journey for each customer's order. We analyze proximity to the customer, inventory levels, pricing, fraud risk, and service level in real-time. These are some of the weighted criteria, to determine the most efficient way to route each order. Additionally, we include free samples in each order, using smart logic and data to increase lifetime value and cross-sales.

Multiple streams of revenue 

Campus Protein has multiple revenue streams including: 

• Sales of our third party products
• Sales of our proprietary private line products
• A service that allows us to monetize our high-level data and industry trends (we never sell  customer data)
• A service for on-campus activations, in which companies pay to leverage our network of college representatives to promote or distribute their product
• In-box sampling, which allows companies to pay us to put their flyer or samples into Campus Protein orders

Campus Protein has had cumulative sales of over 8 figures since inception, while remaining profitable, with exponential growth ahead. With already strong margins our focus is expansion. We currently have over 70% margins in our private line, covering only 3 product categories. Our plan is to leverage our own data to strategically drive innovation into the correct product categories and flavors. We will be creating 4-5 new private line products in new product categories this year alone.

Campus Protein has built out its own premium service called “CP Select'' that functions similarly to Amazon Prime, where customers can pay $50 per year or $5 per month for unlimited free shipping. We have developed various clubs around our products including Energy Drink of the Month Club, Protein of the Month Club, and Shaker Bottle of the Month Club. We also have strong strategic partnerships with top supplement brands such as Celsius, C4, Optimum Nutrition, BANG Energy, Monster, Blender Bottle, Gatorade, Vital Proteins, Muscle Milk, and many other notable brands.
