A Crowd-Owned Animation Studio
Pencilish’s founding team has worked on enormously popular animated films that have grossed billions worldwide, including The Lion King, Pocahontas, and Mulan.
The global animation market is projected to grow to $587B by 2030, with 2D animation expected to see the highest growth rate and market share.*
Pencilish has successfully raised over $2M to fund its initial efforts and has since released the first episodes of two new original series, “Bjorn the Last Unicorn” and “Mind Over Murphy.” The third series, “JuJu Brain” Episode 1, releases in July!

Animation is the holy grail of entertainment: evergreen and beloved by generations young and old. Our team at Pencilish Studios has designed a few pretty great animated characters ourselves—ever heard of Simba, Pumbaa, Kronk, Pocahontas, or Mushu?
Along the way, we’ve learned first-hand that while it takes a village to bring an animated story to life, the only way to make any real profit is by owning the IP (intellectual properties). That’s why we’ve brought together an incredibly talented crew of artists and directors to build out a library of world-class content designed for the way we distribute and consume media in today’s digital age. Pencilish is developing IP that can be licensed and merchandised just like the big studios do, but at a fraction the cost - in partnership with our community of investors (you!).
More than 4,500 investors believed in our vision and previously helped us raise $2.1M, enabling us to execute our "Phase One" plans in 2021. As we gear up for "Phase Two" of our journey, we are excited to share this opportunity with the StartEngine community.
Today, Pencilish has a slate of four shows in development, two of which have officially launched with pilot episodes currently available online. Looking ahead, we plan to add another four unique series to that list with the help of this new wave of investors.
Pencilish is uniquely positioned to seize the epic opportunity presented by a multi-billion-dollar animation industry—and we can’t wait for you to join us.
We are living in the golden age of content creation—and creators no longer want to commit their blood, sweat, and toil for a tiny percent of revenue and a line in the end credits. Though teams of talented artists have created and brought our most beloved characters and stories to life, it’s the massive corporations that actually own the IP and reap the benefits of its success.
With social media and streaming platforms spurring more demand for entertainment than ever, old-school production models are seeing a shake-up. Animation entertainment companies have traditionally taken a large percentage of ownership due to limited margins. However, now that smaller creative teams can develop and distribute their own IP, the landscape is primed for change.
The age of creative gatekeeping is over. With the explosion of YouTube, TikTok, and other content creation and distribution platforms, anyone can launch their stories and ideas into the world.
At Pencilish Animation Studios, we want to take things one step further by inviting our investors to be involved in the development and ownership of new IP that then opens the door to longer-term merchandising opportunities. By cutting out the middleman, we not only have greater control, but we’ll also be able to secure better deals, partnerships, and opportunities—all made possible by you.
Thanks to our world-class team of animation pros who’ve held key roles in creating billion-dollar IP for big corporations such as Disney and Warner Bros, Pencilish is uniquely positioned to be a trailblazing force in this new age of content development.
Pencilish is creating short-form animated series perfect for widely-accessible, digital content channels such as YouTube. Our stories are designed for a family audience, with a focus on older kids who have access to smart devices for entertainment. We work virtually and leverage the best small studios around the world for a fraction of what Hollywood spends.
Yet, as insiders already know, the real money comes from all the ancillary licensing and merchandising deals across publishing, toys, video games, etc. As we build a growing audience, we’ll take our most popular IP and strike up partnerships to achieve the true financial potential those characters and content have to offer.
Important to the growth of our audience is the community we create around Pencilish. For that reason, we just launched our new “AnimToon” playlist on our branded Youtube Channel. We are reaching out to animation schools around the world and will be continually curating a playlist where we celebrate “the next generation” of animation talent by licensing their films, giving them a chance at Youtube monetization, directing lots of eyes to their content!
When the COVID-19 pandemic brought live-action productions to a screeching halt, animation saw a huge boom in demand which doesn't appear to be stopping any time soon. The global animation market is now expected to grow from $372B in 2021 to $587B by 2030, with 2D animation anticipated to see the highest growth rate and market share. (source)
Beloved classics remain stronger than ever, with the creators of South Park recently closing a $900M deal to make six extra seasons and 14 movies. Meanwhile, new internet sensations such as the preschool series CoComelon demonstrate there are enormous opportunities within digital distribution channels. Started as a father's side hobby, CoComelon is now YouTube's most viewed channel in the U.S. and the second most-viewed channel in the world (source, source). Averaging 3.5 billion monthly views, CoComelon makes an estimated $120M each year through ads, and the company behind the series was recently acquired for $3B.
As the global children's animation and drama show market is projected to reach over $7B in 2025, and in 2021, global toy sales crested $104B, it's clear the market has huge potential with plenty of room for new entrants (source, source). We believe Pencilish is perfectly positioned to launch our own animated IPs with platforms such as YouTube as the launchpad for our high-quality content.
Pencilish Animation Studios is a small but mighty force, ready to introduce the world to an amazing lineup of children’s characters and shows. Our team is brimming with industry talent, and our advisory board is made up of seasoned vets, including two Disney feature film directors and a former Disney VP.
In the past year, we have successfully raised $2M+ with the help of over 4,500 investors, while also beginning development on our first four animated series.
In April 2022, we released our first episode of “Bjorn the Last Unicorn,” which quickly surpassed over 100K views. The following month, the first episode of “Mind Over Murphy” premiered, achieving over 50K views in just 14 days.
Most recently, Pencilish has announced our partnership with Aro Lucha Entertainment to begin development on the “Aro Lucha” animated series, and we’ve continued to build additional relationships with independent studios across world, including Brazil and New Zealand.
We now have four more Pencilish series concepts slated to begin development in 2023 as part of our “Phase Two” plans. Our creativity is flowing and we’re rearing to go!
Pencilish Studios possesses a unique opportunity to become a major name within the entertainment industry. By combining a talented team with an increasing popularity in animated content, we believe there's never been a better time to invest in our animation entertainment studio.
Funds raised from this campaign will be put towards our "Phase Two" goals, including adding more top talent to our studio and continuing the development and animation production of both new and existing animated series.
We can’t wait to create characters and stories that people around the world will come to know and love - and with your help, Pencilish can forge memories for a whole new generation.
Pencilish Animation Studios is a new entertainment company ready to disrupt how new animation content is created, released, and monetized. Made up of top industry professionals from Disney, Warner Brothers, and more, Pencilish is developing world-class IP, co-owned by our everyday investors, for entry into a multi-billion-dollar global market.

Hey Pencilish-ers! I wanted to drop a note that I will be attending the long-standing Animmation conference, CTN Animation Expo 2022 in Burbank, CA THIS WEEKEND! I will be moderating multiple panels there. If you are attending, I hope we can meet up. I won't have a Pencilish booth this time, I'm mostly remaining mobile so I can have meetings with some of the studios and artists there. My twin brother, Tony, will have a booth, so find him and I won't be too far away. I hope you all have a great weekend as you get ready for a happy Thanksgiving! Lastly, we are in our LAST FEW WEEKS of this investment raise on Startengine! Now is the time to make a decision- please invest and have your friends and family also- startengine.com/pencilish

Hello Pencilish-ers! I've been hearing from many of you that are unclear about what "AnimToon" is and what are goals are with it. Happy to anwser that because I'm really proud of this "sub-brand" within the Pencilish Studios family! AnimToon started as an idea in my head from teaching both in the US and Italy extensively. I started noticing that there were some AMAZING animation student "thesis" films being made by EVERY STUDENT AT EVERY ANIMATION SCHOOL around the world- but so few of them get seen by the public!
We call it AnimToon: The BEST Animated short student films in the world!
So, once we got our Youtube Channel monetized (almost 8 months ago), we realized we had the opportunity and the connections to correct this problem- and go one step further- not just help those animators get their shorts SEEN, but also get PAID for their work. It's not easy to get monetized on Youtube, you must have at least 2000 followers and a ton of watch time to your channel before they allow you to benefit from the money coming from the ads (that will be there anyway, wether you are monetized or not). We announced AnimToon as a playlist on Pencilish Studios Youtube channel with the goal of giving the students 70% of the profits from monetization (based on views for their short, the rest goes to marketing their shorts and our MCN who also gets it out there) and we would advertise it and share about the creators via all of our social media! Of course, the students retain 100% of the ownership of their short. We put a new short out once a week and we already have 37 shorts up there from all over the world! They are a currated group, by us, so you can feel good that it will be an enjoyable experience watching the entire playlist! Our goal is to break AnimToon into it's own channel soon, so look for that information coming your way soon. AnimToon and Pencilish Studio-, we are striving to bring the BEST animation series, shorts, and features (down the road) possible! Please join us now, INVEST in Pencilish Animation studios here: startengine.com/pencilish

Hello Pencilish-ers! Just a quick note about Youtube and how the youth of today view their content. This is SO IMPORTANT for any small (like Pencilish!) or large (Disney, Netflix) media company to be thinking about right now- yet it seems the big studios are behind on this! The chart below states it well- of the various social media platforms, Youtube is the leader in where Teens EYES are right now! The secondary point here is that Facebook has almost lost tweens/teens all together! This is why we are leaning into Youtube as our distribution system for all our content right now! It's also why we are pivoting to create more and more WEEKLY Short content for Youtube Shorts! We need to be where the audience are, job 1! Our content is also targeting a slightly older audience (8-14, but with Mind Over Murphy aging even older than that). We are striving to entertain kids where they are now- diving into the humorous world of social media (Bjorn the Last Unicorn), childhood mental issues and imagination (JuJu Brain), and college aged anxiety and life lessons about work and love (Mind Over Murphy). BUT- we need you to help us make Pencilish Studios the #1 destination for INDEPENDENT ENTERTAINMENT! Invest now at Startengine.com/pencilish !

Every couple weeks we post a "Behind the Pencil" of one of us creating animation art for one of our series. In this video, her first, meet Kay Breshears, our newest Assistant Art Director/ Background painter. She did all of the Backgrounds for Episode 1, 2 and 3 of Bjorn and in this video she's creating the look and feel for Michael's bedroom for our teaser animation for the show "Aro Lucha" . Check it out below and help support hers and all of our hard work by investing in Pencilish Studios ( startengine.com/pencilish )! - Tom B., CEO
Just to a quick note with things that are going on right now at Pencilish.... brand and identity are a constant discussion we have. Most days, our discussions revolve around storytelling and our characters, but we always try and take a moment and look at the bigger picture of "Who are we" and are we showing that as a brand? Some of that is easy- figuring out a font and color scheme that is our "Brand" (hopefully you've noticed we like purple- a lot), but also, with so many different IP characters, how do we show Pencilish Studios' brand best? Even harder, we have a target audience we are creating for (series that are made for kids, potentially 7-14) but we also have an audience of investors (older, more like 18-25 and up) and we need to speak to both of them.
I'll be honest, it's a hard thing to do. We are meeting with a business class at Ringling College of Art and Design right now and they are preparing pitches on how Pencilish should best market what we are doing. "Who are our audience" is the #1 question we are trying to address. Disney, Nicelodeon, Cartoon Network and even smaller companies like Tonkyo House all have these problems with marketing- is it the IP you're selling or the studio? So far, we are selling the studio, but as we grow, I think we will be marketing the IP more and more as seperate identities. That's when we can really lean into that age group that is specific for that IP. I wish you could respond here, but I will post this on LinkedIN also, so please go there to comment also. We are growing with you and that's what's exciting about being a part of a startup! Thanks for being there in this revolution with us!

Pencilish pals- This is a big day! After hinting about this project and showing the logo (last week) as well as some development artwork here and there, we are finally ready to announce our new "Phase 2" project: "A Date with Deth"! Details below, but the short of it is: We have made a deal with the world's largest webcomic vender, WEBTOONS, to be a "Featured" comic strip on their website! IF you haven't heard of it, WebToons ("website" + "cartoons") started in South Korea and is now HUGE worldwide- with 72 Million MONTHLY active users in Korea and 14 Million in the US. According to Forbes, " Last year, the entire U.S. comics industry — periodicals, graphic novels and digital across all publishers, genres and channels — brought in a record $1.28 billion- doesn't even reach WebToons' revenue! The company sees the American market overtaking Asia in 3-5 years based on the current growth rates in the US. So, Pencilish Studios feels that WebToons- like Youtube- is a place we need to be to expose are IP to the world and gain a potentially huge following. We are not turning from Youtube, we are just adding this new series to our IP portfolio and launching it in a very economical way: as a webcomic that can later be turned into an animated series (something that MANY popular Webtoons are doing already).
What is "A Date with Deth" ?
A Date with Deth (ADWD) is my original story. It began as an idea I had for a live action romantic comedy with this premise (imagine Chris Pratt as Deth, it's more fun that way):
"What if Death was a lonely guy that doesn't love his job anymore, but knows he provides an important "service" for his tough mom, Destiny, and ultimately, the Man Upstairs. He goes to collect an old soul (Phil), but he's early, so he goes as his alter ego "Seth" (no black robe, skull, or scythe). But- he is met by Phil's daughter Mindy- a energetic, exciting artist. Deth/Seth is immediately interested in her and delays his hand for a little while so he can get to know Mindy -while helping her solve a mystery unfolding in her life. This leads to Destiny pressuring Deth to "finish the job". Soon, both situations escalate to a growing problem- Can Deth find love and still do his job?"
BOOM! You in yet? Here's the rest of the details: We are working with writer Susanna Pritchett (who has co-developed this project with me for almost two years now) and WebToon artist Sarah K. Turner. Additionally, concept artist/co-writer Heather Houston is on the team to add additional input and sketches. I oversee it all and our wonderful producer, Pam Darley, is helping to keep the cart on the track!
We launch on WebToons on December 1st with the first three "episodes" and after that, new episodes every two weeks on Thursdays.
We will let you know more as the time gets closer- lots of work ahead of us right now- but stay tuned! AND- why haven't you invested yet? Tell your friends and family and have them go here: startengine.com/pencilish

That's right! Did you know that we are translating some of our content into the Spanish language? Even though we are small, we believe its important to create fun animation content for the massively under-served Hispanic speaking population! We have established a relationship with a dubbing and voice acting service in Mexico and they have been amazing to work with! We are going slow (we are small and there's a lot going on!) but we already have "Bjorn the Unicorn", episode 1 in Spanish and we JUST DROPPED "Juju Brain" epsiode 1 in Spanish too! More are coming too! Here's a sample:

Investors, this is the news you've been waiting a long time for: We are beginning the process of pitching to Liscensing, Toy, and Animation streamers/studios with our original IP! Now, just know, this is the beginning. It's a slow process and we are also still getting together the tools to pitch them what we are doing, but I want you to know, it's starting! I have a meeting with A MAJOR studio next week! Mostly, I wanted to share with you HOW you pitch to a potential partner. Yes, we have some great animation to show- soemthing most companies do NOT have- but you need something short to get them excited- that can get the idea across to move into the next phase of pitching/inteterest and that first thing is A PITCH DECK. It's usually about 5-6 pages long (usually a PDF or Powerpoint) that has a summary of the concept and introduces you to the main characters, team behind it, and any other world building you can imply with visuals. The Good news: WE HAVE PITCH DECKS FOR ALL 6 OF OUR FIRST TIER IP! AND- Below, is an example of one - for Warpigs!- so you can see what they look like. I hope you enjoy this part of the buisness as much as I do. Sharing what we are creating to start the process of making revenue generating deals is an important part of why we are here! Viva La Animation Revolution and please share this with other friends that want to invest in the NEXT BIG THING in Animation entertainment: Startengine.com/pencilish !

Without getting to technical, I wanted to show you a "rigging" test clip for our new "Dustin" series. Its going to premiere on our Youtube Channel as "Shorts" within a couple months but we are deep in animation prep for it now. First, we designed the character and created the model sheet:
Next steps are to start creating a 2D "rig" for him to be able to be moved, kind of like a puppet, by animators, using Toonboom Harmony software. This is the same process that Disney TV goes through for their shows. Here's a still image of the character in Toonboom, in a pose so you can see what his final line/look will be:
Lastly, here's a V.1 test of how Ellie, our rigger, is designing all the points of movement. She's created special controllers to make his head and body turns easy and as smooth as possible. Next, she will be doing this for his mouth (for dialogue) and for his arm/hands and legs. Still lots to do, but once we have him all "rigged" he can be put into the hands of a talented animator and with a great piece of dialogue (from Dustin Nickerson)- and COME TO LIFE! More to come!

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.
Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.
What will the return on my investment be?
StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market, or what occurs thereafter. Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.
What is the difference between Regulation Crowdfunding and Regulation A+?
Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
