REASONS TO INVEST

We believe we're the best cinnamon swirl bread in the world. The very nature of our signature products—round, all-natural, small batch, artisan cinnamon swirl loaves—provides natural barriers to competition: the costs and hassles associated with baking in the extremely expensive but necessary “crimp pans,” discourage competition.

GROWING IN A BIG INDUSTRY! The $30 billion baking industry has room to grow. Breakfast foods, clean formulas, and minimally processed baked goods are trending. 5 Generation Bakers, with over 70% growth since 2019, has the capacity to continue this direction.*

AWARD-WINNING! Our QVC partnership has expanded our brand. In 2022, we shipped to over 80,000 homes in all 50 states — strong sales in the West have demonstrated to us, beyond any doubt, the nationwide appeal of our breads. Plus, we received the QVC Customer Choice Award for Best Bread!

the pitch

At 5 Generation Bakers, we have been selling our beloved Jenny Lee Swirl Bread across the U.S. for 12 years. Our major partnership with QVC has catapulted us to nearly $4 million in revenue in 2022 and more than 20% growth for two years running. We are ready to expand into new spaces including CBD, keto and gluten-free, and other baked goods such as cookies, bars, cakes, and whoopie pies. Join us as we bring generations of love for sticky goodness to consumers across the country.

Overview

Sharing Our Delicious Family Recipes with People Everywhere

We call ourselves 5 Generation Bakers for a reason: our founder’s family has operated bakeries for at least the past five generations. The Jenny Lee brand name has been a Pittsburgh icon since the 1930s, and now we’ve taken it national. Even as we carry on the family tradition, we innovate through new product lines and sales channels such as QVC and Hemp Bakers, our line providing some of the first CBD baked goods in a new and explosive market.

The Problem & Our solution

Expanding Our Reach with Better Manufacturing and Innovative Products

Typically found in small retail family bakeries, our type of swirl bread has been difficult to commercially manufacture, leaving a gap in the market for a national swirl bread brand. Some volume wholesale bakeries sought to fill this gap with their over-emulsified, preservative-laden sandwich breads by adding a cinnamon swirl. We designed a swirl bread manufacturing process to ensure profitability and commercial success while maintaining the small-batch, traditional quality of our product.

Our clean formula, cylindrical shape, and butter-cinnamon sugar coating help us stand out in the market. Most recently, we won QVC’s Customer Choice Award for Best Bread. As a specialty bakery, we command a stronger margin than commercial wholesale bread bakers. We sell our products to retailers, restaurants, food service operators, other manufacturers and directly to consumers. Our innovative new baked goods serve the rapidly expanding CBD, Keto, and gluten-free markets.

the market & Our Traction

Bringing Small-Batch Perfection to a Major National Market

The baking industry is valued at over $30 billion, growing at a rate of 4.1% year over year (Source | Source). Bread and breakfast items account for nearly a third of the market, the category we best occupy. Trends over the past two years show specialty bakeries growing even more rapidly with increased direct to consumer sales.

Source

We have trademarked both our Jenny Lee and Hemp Bakers brands. We have loyal relationships with our co-packers, with agreements currently in talks to expand. Our business has grown by 20% year-over-year in both 2021 and 2022. QVC sales alone have grown by 265% in 2022, having reached 80,000 homes across the U.S. We have achieved all this growth with only one product, and now we have three new items coming to market in the coming months.

While our growth with QVC is impressive, 10 of our top 12 customers also grew in 2022! Our next three 'customers' include Vlore, allowing us to enter hundreds of Food Service/Restaurant channels, Michael Foods which has grown to 2/3 trucks a month for French Toast, and retail distributors featuring Jenny Lee Swirl Breads in bakery departments (Source).

Why Invest

Maximizing Potential Through Expansion and Diversification

We generated nearly $4 million in revenue in 2022 using just one production line, and we believe we have the capacity for additional lines to expand our revenue even further. The $4 million was done in one shift that averaged about 45-50 hours of line time last year. That could be extended to up to 120 hours (ideal 2-shift max would be 100 hours) which doubles revenue generated from that line and space to add additional lines. We estimate the production line revenue capacity is between $10-12M and facility capacity north of $25M. The facility capacity would only require investment in new equipment, and space expansion would allow for additional revenue growth.

Most recently, we have begun forming partnerships with other bakery manufacturers to produce new products including gluten and keto-friendly swirl breads, pepperoni rolls, cookies, bars, cakes, whoopie pies, and more. Join us as we bring our delicious, small-batch swirl breads beloved by generations of customers to the entire country.

TEAM

Scott Alfred Baker
Scott Alfred Baker
Founder/President

Scott Baker is President and founder of 5 Generation Bakers. Since early 2010, he oversees a talented group of bakers that manufacture gourmet cinnamon swirl breads and other quality goods for retailers, restaurants, and other food service outlets. Locally the bread is marketed under the Jenny Lee brand name. As the name of the new bakery implies, Scott is the 5th generation of the Baker family in the baking business.

Scott’s work history includes working for Jenny Lee Bakery as a full time production employee while he was enrolled as a full time student in the University of Pittsburgh’s College of General Studies. During his Pitt career, he took a semester off to attend the American Institute of Baking and received his degree in the Science and Technology of Baking. After receiving his CBT, Scott accepted a position with City Pride Bakery in Pittsburgh, PA. Scott graduated from Pitt in 1994 with a business degree and rejoined the family business the following year.

When Jenny Lee Bakery closed a few months shy of its 70th anniversary in 2008, Scott’s first move was to secure the trademark rights to the Jenny Lee brand name and soon began creating a business plan for his new bakery. Nearly 2 years later, in February of 2010, he fired the ovens up once again. In the time since then, 5 Generation Bakers has reached customers in over 5000 supermarkets, retailers, restaurants and food service operators from Chicago to the East Coast, France, Japan and Trinidad. 5 Generation Bakers was named one of the fastest growing private companies in Pittsburgh by the Pittsburgh Business Times for four years in a row as well as three consecutive years on Inc. Magazine’s “Inc. 5000” list of the fastest growing private companies in America.

Steve Percifield

Steve Percifield

Vice President of Sales

Growing up as the third generation in a family-owned wholesale bakery in Indianapolis, Steve worked in every capacity in the business, beginning at age 12. Working full-time while completing his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University, he was name vice president/general manager three years later, when his father semi-retired. During his tenure, sales and floor space were doubled, and production was semi-automated.

Spreading his wings, he left the business three years later, working for some of the largest bakery-supplying companies in the industry, DCA Food Industries, Bessire & Co., and L. Karp & Sons (Karp’s), serving as assistant marketing director, plant manager and wholesale account executive at DCA, marketing director and board member at Bessire, and vice president marketing and national sales, and board member at Karp’s.

At Bessire, manufactured product sales doubled and there was a 200% turn-around in the bottom line. At Karp’s, during his nearly 13-years there, the company went from declining sales of manufactured items to over a 20-fold increase with sales exceeding $100MM.

Beginning his work with 5 Generation Bakers in fall of 2011, in three months he expanded distribution to the Chicago-area, and expanded it further to include distributors in MI, WI, NE, and Minneapolis, who between them cover 18 states.

143 Day

Nearly everyone grew up watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and learned and enjoyed the many life lessons he shared.  Mr Rogers taught about kindness, patience, compassion and community.  His daily reminders provided fun and interactive ways for children to start thinking about more than just themselves.  He liked us 'just the way you are'.

One of his favorite days was the 143rd day of the year. This Julian date usually falls on May 23rd - except in Leap Years when it falls on May 22nd.  143 was his coded way to tell you "I Love You" since there is 1 letter in "I", 4 in "Love" and 3 in "You".  Thus 143 Day became a thing.

Pennsylvania has officially made 143 Day an official PA State Day of Kindness.  There is a movement headed up by my friend Gregg Behr and his colleague Ryan Rydzewski to make this a National Holiday to honor Mr. Rogers' Legacy   As they would tell you, 'We need more kindness in our lives'

Gregg and Ryan have continued in Mr. Rogers' footsteps with their actions, their passions and in their life endeavors.  The duo have co-authored several books, most notably "When You Wonder, You're Learning".  Their collaboration has lead to inspiring video productions that would make Mr. Roger's proud.

Today, they released a special installment of "Wonder With Us", in honor of 143 Day.  If you've ever wondered how 5 Generation Bakers makes our famous Jenny Lee Swirl Bread, be sure to check this out!  https://youtu.be/Jwc00XUVJB4

In recognition of 143 Day of Kindness, we've created a discount code at www.jennyleeswirlbread.com to help you spread some kindness.  Use code: 143DAY at check out to save $14.30 off your order of $20 or more.  Ship some swirl bread to someone you love today!

Anyone that knows me and my family know that Triathlon is a HUGE part of our lives.  Not only do we compete, recreationally for Joella and I and as part of his Collegiate Club team at Queen's University for Zac, but we also host several triathlons throughout the year.  This past weekend was the first of the year with the Spring Mighty Moraine Man Triathlon and what a great weekend it was.

Zac and I both raced this weekend

Nearly 400 athletes competed this weekend

We're proud to be a major sponsor of the race by providing Jenny Lee Swirl Bread for every athlete

The triathlon community has so many great people from all over with so many different experiences and perspectives.  It's fun great to be involved and we love helping people lead a more active and fun filled lifestyle.   With a little bit of Jenny Lee sweetness of course!

Oh yeah, the final Early Bird 10% bonus expires at 2:00 PM today.  Thanks for being with us on this StartEngine ride!

Pittsburgh Public Schools

We were honored to host Malik and Kaleigh from the Pittsburgh Public Schools Nutrition Group for a tour of the bakery today!  We've been working with them the past several months to develop a Jenny Lee Breakfast Sandwich program for the 2023/2024 school year.

The menu has been approved and the Pittsburgh School students will be enjoying Jenny Lee Sausage Sandwiches for breakfast during their next school year!

In our debut year, we will be serving an estimated minimum of 139,100 Jenny Lee Breakfast Sandwiches!

05.16.23

Almost there!

So the first week is behind us and in that time, we raised nearly $100,000!  The first week ended with $98,313.51 invested in Jenny Lee  Swirl Breads.  We're well on our way to hitting the goals we need to help our bakery recruit staff for a second shift.  Once we break that $100K mark, our next focus will be on automation and process improvements for more efficiencies in production.

With the close of the first week, we now enter our last Early Bird offering that goes until next Monday at 2:00 PM.

These 70 different investors includes 56 people NEW to StartEngine!  Thank you all for joining the 5GB ownership team!

Along with the great start to our campaign, we also had an incredible response to the Strawberry Cinnamon Swirl Breads launched on QVC.  So much so that they sold out!  With the Strawberry back in stock, we were asked to go on air again tonight between 7 and 8 PM on QVC2.  Catch us on TV or Streaming live!

They have also scheduled us to be back in Studio for another live airing on June 14th.  Details to follow.

Coming up these week, I'll be presenting to the McKees Rocks Historical Society on the history of Baker Family baking and particularly how it relates to the McKees  Rocks Community.  My family has been involved here for at least the last 4 generations including business, civil and community efforts.  My great grandfather was once Mayor of McKees Rocks,  my Uncle Chubby was McKees Rocks Post Master and my Aunt Catherine Baker Knoll was Pennsylvania State Treasurer and then Lt. Governor.  While I had an early interest in politics, I cast my lot as an entrepreneur and someone that could aid our community that way.  I've been a McKees Rocks Rotarian for more than a quarter century.

But enough about me, let's talk about YOU!  If you want to find out more on our history, my vision and how I plan to grow Jenny Lee Swirl Breads, please feel free to message me personally in the discussion section below.

Wow! Exciting first week

I can't thank our fans enough!  It's been a whirlwind of a first week and I'm so excited about all that we have accomplished.  We came flying out of the gate with more than $65,000 invested in the first 48 hours.  But more exciting than that is the attention the NEW Strawberry Cinnamon Swirl Bread is generating!

Not only did it sell out during it's debut airing on QVC on Tuesday, there was a waitlist of over 200 orders of people lining up to buy once it's restocked.  It received so much interest from our fans that QVC is bringing me back on air next Tuesday evening.  They also scheduled us for a special airing in June.  Finally, they invited us to a first time Foodie Festival at Studio Park in early June!  Key is that we have to bring an entirely NEW item so I'll have the R&D team working extra hours to see what we can drum up in time for the event.

Thanks for the support and I'm looking forward to this run ride with you all!

Picture is of my son Zac from December of 2010 when the bakery was less than a year old.  Maybe he'll change the name to 6th Generation Bakers one day?!  LOL

05.10.23

Huge First Day!

Today was such an exciting day for me.  I've worked tirelessly over the past 9 months to develop this StartEngine campaign as I continued to build, grow and run this bakery.  After all this time, to finally launch?  All I can say is that it was an incredibly exciting moment to step into.

Couple that with the fact that QVC invited us to launch the Jenny Lee Strawberry Cinnamon Swirl Bread live during their Gourmet Holiday program with Sandra Bennett this afternoon.   Sandra is an incredible host and good friend that advocated for us to be a part of the Spring products and programing that they are promoting right now.

Two big launches within 24 hours.  And both to a degree of success...  Over $30,000 in our first real day of the campaign and a SELLOUT of the Strawberry Cinnamon Swirl 4 pack!

Thank you to all who support our efforts to be the World's Best Cinnamon Swirl Bread!

Catch you all soon and please let me know how I can help answer any questions about Jenny Lee Swirl Bread.

Was the huntington bank promissory note paid in full on april 15th this year? It seems extraordinary to have $4M in debt with very little net income reported. Are all payments currently up to date in regards to this debt, and was the maturity date of the loan extended or is this note now retired?

Fantastic, Scott, thank you! It looks like you can only select one so should the 48hr one be selected and the appropriate tier reward (swag bag or certificate) would be added?

I’m curious how the time and amount bonuses overlay… if I invest during this first 48 hrs do the tier bonuses apply as well?

Selecting Tier 2 does not show 10%, + 25%, +20%. Am I reading this wrong? 20% does not show up.

With Regulation A+, a non-accredited investor can only invest a maximum of 10% of their annual income or 10% of their net worth per year, whichever is greater. There are no restrictions for accredited investors.

With Regulation Crowdfunding, non-accredited investors with an annual income or net worth less than $124,000, are limited to invest a maximum of 5% of the greater of those two amounts. For those with an annual income and net worth greater than $124,000, he/she is limited to investing 10% of the greater of the two amounts.

At the close of an offering, all investors whose funds have “cleared” by this time will be included in the disbursement. At this time, each investor will receive an email from StartEngine with their Countersigned Subscription Agreement, which will serve as their proof of purchase moving forward.

Please keep in mind that a company can conduct a series of “closes” or withdrawals of funds throughout the duration of the campaign. If you are included in that withdrawal period, you will be emailed your countersigned subscription agreement and proof of purchase immediately following that withdrawal.

StartEngine assists companies in raising capital, and once the offering is closed, we are no longer involved with whether the company chooses to list shares on a secondary market, or what occurs thereafter. Therefore, StartEngine has no control or insight into your investment after the close of the live offering. In addition, we are not permitted to provide financial advice. You may want to contact a financial professional to discuss possible investment outcomes.

For Regulation Crowdfunding, investors are able to cancel their investment at any point throughout the campaign up until 48 hours before the closing of the offering. Note: If the company does a rolling close, they will post an update to their current investors, giving them the opportunity to cancel during this timeframe. If you do not cancel within this 5-day timeframe, your funds will be invested in the company, and you will no longer be able to cancel the investment. If your funds show as ‘Invested’ on your account dashboard, your investment can no longer be canceled.

For Regulation A+, StartEngine allows for a four-hour cancelation period. Once the four-hour window has passed, it is up to each company to set their own cancelation policy. You may find the company’s cancelation policy in the company’s offering circular.

Once your investment is canceled, there is a 10-day clearing period (from the date your investment was submitted). After your funds have cleared the bank, you will receive your refund within 10 business days.

Refunds that are made through ACH payments can take up to 10 business days to clear. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the bank, but we will do everything we can to get you your refund as soon as possible. However, every investment needs to go through the clearing process in order to get sent back to the account associated with the investment.

Both Title III (Regulation Crowdfunding) and Title IV (Reg A+) help entrepreneurs crowdfund capital investments from unaccredited and accredited investors. The differences between these regulations are related to the investor limitations, the differing amounts of money companies are permitted to raise, and differing disclosure and filing requirements.
