Santa Barbara, CA – November 25, 2020: When Cushman & Wakefield decided to offer complimentary electric vehicle charging for tenants of their Tampa, FL office buildings, they knew it had to be:
- Secure to prevent unauthorized use
- Simple for authorized users
- Powered by HID Global credentials
The two buildings offering tenant charging are in the private but open parking garages of a large multi-use area. Since Cushman & Wakefield wanted to offer charging at no cost to tenants, vehicle charging stations would have to be secured for their use only.
Though security would need to be robust enough to keep out shoppers, visitors and anyone else tempted to use the stations, it also needed to be simple to use. Building management wanted to ensure easy onboarding and continued use, without constant calls to the office for forgotten passwords or user error.
Powered by HID Global
The building already used HID Global credentials for access to physical spaces like front doors and elevators. These credentials were working well for tenants and management alike, and neither group wanted an additional credential just for vehicle charging.
Solution: Liberty Access Technologies + HID Global
Liberty Access Technologies (LAT) proved the perfect solution. Its Hydra system allows for centralized monitoring and control of electric vehicle charging and integrates with existing HID Global credentials. These systems are proven effective and have long been in use by organizations across the country, including UCLA Harbor Hospital and several multi-tenant residences across the country.
Building management simply adds vehicle charging privileges to a user’s existing access credential, then the user presents their card or mobile phone each time they pull up to charge. That’s it — no complex passcodes to remember, and no complicated provisioning process to manage.
“We have always felt that allowing access to EV charging should be simple and easy. Integrating our keypad access solution with the ubiquitous HID Global proximity card reader has proven to offer many advantages not only for our large corporate customers but also for multi-tenant residences.”

Impact: Simple Steps to a Greener World
Approximately 30-40 people regularly use the four available charging stations, for sessions lasting around two hours each. Everyone has been thrilled. Users save about $30-$40 every month, as well as eliminate the hassle of nightly charging, and building management appreciates the Hydra’s centralized monitoring and simple provisioning to HID credentials. Best of all, the system makes the commitment to a more energy-efficient and less fossil-fuel filled world easier than ever before.
Users and building management are also pleased with the ease of use, especially that there are no complicated passwords to remember or additional credentials to carry.
