Imagine the Future of Film.

We are Filmio. Built by fans and Hollywood filmmakers so anyone can create and all can share in the profits.

Filmio is a revolutionary idea — an entertainment company built by fans to be owned by fans. That means you can be a co-owner of a Hollywood studio that’s partnering with the likes of the producers of Star Wars, Lost in Translation, and The Godfather 2.

How is this even possible? The JOBS Act made it possible for people like you and me to own a stake in the companies, films, TV and music we love, and to share in the profits of that success.

The bottom line? We’re now disrupting an industry that’s lost sight of its mission. As a start-up entertainment company, our flagship hit TV series, Landmarks Live, lets us bring to fans everywhere, giants like Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Andrea Bocelli and host Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And that’s just the beginning. We’re redefining Hollywood in a way never before possible. Come join us on this journey. Together we’re going to make lots of great movies and have even more fun doing it.

Old Hollywood is broken.

Fans have NO ownership. Fans have no stake in the entertainment they love. They put money into the deep pockets of the studios and see no profit from a show’s success.

Fans have NO voice. Fans are merely spectators with no voice in what entertainment ends up in their living rooms.

Fans are left out. Fans have no participation in the creative process, by design. This model has now been proven unsustainable.

Filmio puts you in control.

Fans HAVE co-ownership. Now you can profit from the success of Filmio projects. That’s a linchpin of who we are.

Fans HAVE a voice. You’ll be an integral part of greenlighting the entertainment you love to see.

Fans ARE included. You’ll go behind the scenes and experience unique opportunities to interact with the creators. This is the only model able to carry entertainment into the future.

Filmio is at the heart of a $300 billion intersection.

There’s never been a better fusion of markets.

We love fans because we’re fans just like you.

Groundbreaking engagement opportunities exist for fans. They can talk to creators, help guide the entertainment they want to see and help that entertainment succeed.

We’ve redefined Hollywood to give creators a better deal.

We provide funding, creation and monetization pathways for creators that include our seed fund, intros to other funding partners and crowdfunding.

We want to put an entire industry to work.

Our goal is to have new projects in-house this year. We want to provide writers, directors, cinematographers, set designers and more with all the great projects they can handle.

They say, “Timing is everything.” We agree.

Distribution is exploding.

Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and even Amazon have identified this as an opportunity for themselves and now invest heavily in producing original, premium content to bypass the networks.

Streaming is now stable.

The heavy lifting is done. Broadband access is nearly ubiquitous. Consumers crave instant access to unimaginable content, and there’s never enough.

Growth enablers are ready.

Broadband, connected devices and payment infrastructure — the big three media content enablers — are positioned to support rapid growth. Cloud services are now widely available.

This is how we plan to redefine Hollywood.

You should be in movies. (Really.)

Take it from us. We’re more than overjoyed to be working on projects from people like the producers of Star Wars and The Godfather 2, the writer behind Rogue One, or Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley and Andrea Bocelli from Landmarks Live. But what our work really comes down to is fueling a passion our fans have for great entertainment — a mandate we take very seriously.

HOW DOES FILMIO MAKE MONEY?

Think of Filmio as an independent studio, with worldwide reach, that partners with independent creators of movies, TV, music and more. These creators include Hollywood studios, creative professionals, world-class musicians and producers. We help them bring their projects to fruition—funding, producing and distributing their finished works.

We utilize fan validation and financial support, investor support and the Filmio venture fund to monetize projects we then market and distribute for a financial return. Our proprietary model streamlines the process of getting projects to market, making them more competitive and, thus, more likely to succeed.

WHAT SORT OF RETURN CAN I EXPECT?

As is the case for any business investment scenario, return is impossible to predict. Each investor must weigh any predictive return against their specific investment models. Different types of investments involve varying degrees of risk.

Your Filmio stock purchase has specific financial terms, which you should consider carefully before making any investment decision. While no one can guarantee success in any industry, we are going to work tirelessly to succeed in this dynamic and exciting entertainment industry. That's just our style.

Filmio Originals. Great movies. Great TV. Great music.

What date did Star Wars first come out?

If you guessed 5-25-77, not only did  you get it right, you also guessed the title of our premiere movie! When we met the director — Patrick Read Johnson — and he shared his concept, we immediately knew this was a heartfelt story that needed to be shared with the world. It’s the story of how a sci-fi-obsessed teen’s first encounter with Star Wars changes his life forever.

This film allowed us to partner with the producers of Star Wars and Lost in Translation, along with the entire team that have labored to tell this inspiring story. It even features footage from the set of Star Wars: A New Hope, including a rare, behind-the-scene glimpse of the making of this iconic, industry-defining film.

The Long-Awaited STAR WARS-Inspired Film 5-25-77 Gets a New Trailer and Release Date!
May 1, 2017

I'm sure a lot of you are already aware of this Star Wars-inspired film 5-25-77. The film comes from director Patrick Reed Johnson who has been working on the movie for well over a decade. This movie is a true love letter to Star Wars as it tells a coming-of-age drama story that centers on a teenage movie geek played by John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks), whose life is changed by George Lucas' classic sci-fi fantasy film. This is an autobiographical movie about the director's own experience of how Star Wars affected him.

Patrick Read Johnson’s Long Awaited ‘Star Wars’ Movie ‘5-25-77’ Is Finally Done, Theatrical Release Coming Soon
June 5, 2015

Passion and patience don’t always mix, but Patrick Read Johnson has had plenty of both. Way back in 2007, his movie “5-25-77” screened at the Star Wars Celebration IV and then….sort of disappeared. The picture has never quite been fully completed, lacking the funds to take it over the finish line. And in the years since, it has popped up sporadically at film festivals, while Johnson has struggled to find a home for his picture, complete it, and get it released. And it’s a shame given that buzz has been very positive and that the premise should hit the nostalgic sweet spot for many.

‘5-25-77’ Will Finally Get Its Release – Check Out The Trailer
April 1, 2017

In a story exclusive to pioneering “geek’ website Ain’t It Cool News, the trailer for the long in the works film, 5-25-77, was revealed today. AICN’s Harry Knowles (who has seen a rough cut and has been championing the film since it’s inception almost a decade ago) calls it a “geeky Dazed and Confused“. I see a bit of Almost Famous in it a bit as well. Check out the trailer below.

The Indie Strikes Back! Long Awaited Film '5-25-77' Comes to Theaters for the 40th Anniversary of STAR WARS...
April 29, 2017

15 years ago, Ain't It Cool News posted a story about an "investment trailer" being shot for a movie called 5-25-77 - a film later touted as being "From the Producers of STAR WARS and LOST IN TRANSLATION." That 2002 news item was sourced from an assistant camera operator... yours truly. In the years since, I've written a few times about the semi-autobiographical tale from filmmaker Patrick Read Johnson, both on this site (here's one from 2012) and at one point, a feature for STARLOG Magazine that ran on 5-25-09. Now, after numerous false-starts and premature announcements, this film about Star Wars' "Fan #1" is finally, really coming out...

TRAILER FOR “STAR WARS” LOVE LETTER “5-25-77” CONFIRMS RELEASE THIS MAY IN TIME FOR 40TH ANNIVERSARY
April 29, 2017

I’ve been reading about Patrick Read Johnson’s love letter to Star Wars, the appropriately-titled 5-25-77, for many years. Too many, in fact. So I was overcome with joy on a lazy Saturday afternoon when, out of nowhere, a new trailer was released confirming that what could very well be described as The Ultimate Fan Film is finally on its way to theaters this May — just in time for the 40th anniversary of release of that global phenomenon known as Star Wars.

Star Wars-Inspired Film 5-25-77 Finally Gets a New Trailer and Release Date
May 1, 2017

Patrick Read Johnson has working on his Star Wars-inspired film 5-25-77 for over a decade. It's a coming-of-age story that stars John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks) as a teenage filmmaker living in Wadsworth, Illinois, and his excitement for the premiere of Star Wars on May 25, 1977. The autobiographical film is a true love letter to Star Wars about the director's own experience on how the science fantasy franchise affected his life. A new 3-minute (rounded-up) trailer has been released, showing us a lot of nostalgic 70s-style geek culture, and it was announced that the film will be released on May 15, 2017 (very appropriate film title). It's incredible how this film was made in the course of 13 years, and it looks like Johnson's passionate efforts paid off.

5-25-77 trailer for a 5-25-17 release everywhere!!! Over 40 Years In The Making!!!
April 29, 2017

Hey folks, Harry here... 10 years ago I held a local screening of a rough cut work in progress of Patrick Read Johnson's Autobiographical pic about his legendary status as the first kid to see STAR WARS and how that changed his life forever. I know, I know... STAR WARS changed a lot of us and why should we care about this kid's story? Well, for one... It isn't just STAR WARS... This film is a time capsule that Johnson and his incredibly talented Geek Talent Friends have been working to finesse this film till they were perfectly... Seventies. More so, the film is a coming of age story that tells the tale of Love and the Geek. The film feels like a geeky DAZED & CONFUSED at times, at least as a rough cut.

'5-25-77' is like 'Dazed and Confused' for Star Wars geeks
May 15, 2017

For Star Wars fans, the date May 25, 1977 holds religious-like importance. It's the day the original film came out. It's also the title of the new film "5-25-77," which is part teenage comedy and part love letter to late-'60s/'70s films like "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Jaws" and, of course, the film that would change everything for so many, "Star Wars."

THE 5-25-77 TRAILER IS A LOVE LETTER TO STAR WARS, 2001, AND ALL OF SCI-FI
May 1, 2017

In 1977, Patrick Read Johnson was one of the first people outside of ILM employees to see Star Wars before it was finished—subsequently cementing his place as the very first Star Wars fanboy. That may not have been the start of Johnson’s journey as a director, but it was an important step on the way. For over a decade, Johnson has attempted to bring his biopic, 5-25-77, to the big screen. This year, Johnson’s dream will finally be achieved—just in time for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars.

‘5-25-77’ Trailer: This Love Letter to ‘Star Wars’ Arrives in Time for the 40th Anniversary
May 1, 2017

We’ve been hearing about the Star Wars-themed coming-of-age tale 5-25-77 for nearly a decade. After starting production in 2004, the film debuted at the Hamptons International Film Festival in October of 2008 under the title ’77, but ended up going back to a release that that Star Wars fans will recognize as the exact day that George Lucas first took us into a galaxy far, far away.

5-25-77 Is a Movie About Love for Star Wars...We Think?
May 1, 2017

May 25, 1977 was a landmark for film fans; it was the day Star Wars was released and basically changed the entertainment landscape forever. That also seems to be the story the movie 5-25-77 , written and directed by Patrick Read Johnson, wants to tell. Maybe. Possibly? Honestly, after seeing the trailer it’s kind of tough to tell.

Filmio and 5-25-77 - the Ultimate "Fan Film" For Fans and Filmmakers Alike

Hi all,

I wanted to update you about what the next steps are for our flagship movie: 5-25-77.

It has been a real honor for us to help bring this inspiring movie to people around the country. 5-25-77 is an expertly crafted story about a kid who dreamed of the bright lights of Hollywood, who then, against all odds, is given a guided tour of the magic behind the movies that would define cinema for a generation.

Based on true events in the life of filmmaker Patrick Read Johnson, 5-25-77 is a reminder to all of us that dreams can come true, if you are willing to leave the comfort of what you know, and jump headfirst into the unknown.

This film encapsulates the Filmio mission. To help tell the important stories that fall through the cracks of Hollywood. The reviews are in, and fans agree with us.

We received great reviews and garnered considerable attention playing to several sold out theaters. The goal of the limited release was an attempt to boost the profile of the film at an opportune time and it worked. Interests are peaked and the film has now entered a wider path to release. We had an over 70% fill rate at the theater premiers with a short runway to promote.

We are now working on our plan for broader release. The path to broaden the release is two fold. First we are in discussions with traditional distributors who are interested in parallel marketing opportunities with Last Jedi, which will begin showing trailers around September about the same time we would release our promotion and announce the wider theatrical release.

We are also in discussions with some large companies which have all shown interest in participating in a wider release, with potential for a wider release to 1000 theaters.

The plan for selling the film is also ongoing and we are in talks with major Hollywood distributors, as well as independent distributors. We are awaiting a distribution and marketing plan as well from a boutique studio and a major distributor.

We also have a former studio exec who worked for Paramount who now is a studio distributor, who was part of Raiders Of Lost Ark and the Star Wars films. He loves the film and is very close with the writers behind Stranger Things who are considering releasing the film via a major distributor and building a spin-off television series.

And if all of that isn’t enough… we are finalizing our VOD plans so we will be ready once our theatrical windows close. The plan is to release in conjunction with the beginning of the The Last Jedi and our trailers would begin circulation in early fall with a VOD release just days before the theatrical release of Last Jedi creating a perfect storm for 5-25-77.

And if that isn't enough, here are the links to all of the reviews and mentions 5-55-77 has received so far:

Thank you all for your continued support and investment in what we are building here at Filmio. Stay tuned for more important updates, and don't forget to share our campaign with your fellow fans and filmmaker friends and family!

Best,

Ian LeWinter
