We do our best to source locally, create jobs, and most importantly, provide industry leading quality control and customer care. We learned early on that if someone else builds our bikes - they just aren’t as well put together than if we did it ourselves. The Problem

Most companies rely on overseas manufacturers to paint and build their bikes, over saturating the market with cookie-cutter, commoditized products. It’s simply too difficult for these companies to produce personalized bikes on a scalable level.  

With nearly $1 Billion already being invested into the e-bike industry (source), we like that there has been so much attention as this is an obvious sign as to where the market is going and the massive growth potential it has.  

The only thing missing is personality and purpose built bikes. We’re not all the same, so why should our newest mode of transportation be?

Most companies that are getting funded still produce boring, black and white bikes. Not to mention, very few of these heavily funded companies don’t offer any customization of their bikes. They’re fully built overseas, and what you see is what you get.

Relying heavily on producing their bikes overseas also limits their ability to adapt and improve  products quickly in order to meet the ever changing needs of customers (source).

Plenty of companies (such as Harley, Nike and Tesla) have established themselves as “cult” brands and go beyond just selling a product to consumers, but rather invite them in to feel like they’re part of something bigger. These companies offer customization of their products and have figured out how to scale this type of personalization. Why are they doing this? Because it creates brand loyalty and priceless word-of-mouth marketing.

This keeps marketing costs low as word of mouth and pride of purchase will be our driving force. Our ability to offer a luxury product at an exceptional price, makes us accessible to a wider audience and elevates our brand over the competition (source). 

By working with B2B partners we’ll be selling fleets of bikes and therefore will greatly expand our supply needs. Thus, we’re entering into relationships with supply manufacturers directly rather than working through OEM suppliers. 

This gives us better margins on our components and the ability to meet our growing demand. We already have an established QC manager and liaison overseas and are working to secure more cost-effective shipping channels.

The Market

The e-bike industry is expected to hit $50 Billion by 2027 

With 3.7M e-bikes sold in 2019, estimates are expected to reach 17 Million e-bikes in 2030 (source).  

Based on the automotive industry, approximately 1 out every 100 cars are custom (source). With an estimated 1 Million e-bikes soon to be imported into the USA (source), we believe at least 2% of those sales would go towards custom-built electric bikes. That’s just 2 out of every 100 e-bikes sold- making us believe the total addressable market can be even higher.

The Electric Bike industry is hot with no signs of slowing down as e-bikes are fun, functional and a true micro-mobility solution (source).  That said, with millions of e-bikes entering the market, there is very little diversity amongst them. They’re all practically the same colors and components and don’t create an emotional connection for their owners.  

Our unique niche of offering fully customizable, USA built e-bikes allows riders to purchase bikes that they can be proud of. Leaving them with an emotional connection to their ride knowing they designed it, and that nothing can compare. We’ve found that greater connection leads to greater use.

Our Traction

Our e-bikes are on an incline 

In the last six months alone. We've expanded from our previous 2k sq ft location to our new 7k sq ft facility- which includes a large billboard over a prominent highway visible to 1Million cars per week.

Additionally, we’ve received a contract with the State to produce 70 e-bikes for low-income essential workers (source).

We’ve been producing bikes for the government, law enforcement, and our D2C market for the past 5 years and have implemented the necessary processes to meet our growing demand. We’re also entering the B2B market in order to scale quickly by getting not only our product into retail stores, but better, getting our STORE into retail stores.  


What we mean by this is that we’ve created an interactive digital display and state of the art bike customizer that we’ll provide to our retail partners (by way of a 42” tv) where customers can immerse themselves in endless design possibilities and create the bike of their dreams right there in the store. 

This display will draw the eye while prominently promoting FattE-Bikes as a built in America product. This in turn will make retailers feel proud to sell our e-bikes and make their customers feel proud to buy them.

Relying on revenue alone isn’t enough to be able to place large production orders. One of the primary reasons FattE-Bikes is raising money is to secure our supply chains and improve our production schedule. With this money, we will also be investing in expanding our operations staff and focusing on increased, targeted, marketing efforts. 

The post-Covid world has woken up to the booming electric bicycle trend (source).  No longer do people see them as “bicycles”, but rather as “Light Electric Vehicles'' capable of doing what their car could.

We've been getting a lot of press recently, and now the Wall Street Journal is getting bullish on FattE-Bikes.

If you read the Wall Street Journal over the weekend, you would have seen FattE-Bikes highlighted in Christopher Mimms' article


"The Other Electric Vehicle: E-Bikes Gain Ground for Americans Avoiding Gas Cars" (WSJ, 8/6/2022).

Two FattE-Bikes customers, Crystal and Brianne Williams, are profiled and quoted prevalently in the article, as the two "ditched their car for a pair of electric bikes."

The article notes, "their custom models, assembled by a local e-bike specialty manufacturer, are now their sole means of personal transportation." That e-bike specialty manufacturer? That's right, FattE-Bikes!

The article discusses the growth of the ebike market, mentioning "Overall, e-bike sales more than tripled between 2019 and 2021."

FattE-Bikes COO is also quoted: '“I tell people it’s not a heavy bike, it’s a light electric vehicle,” says Kenny Fischer, co-founder of the company.'

In addition to the lead photograph, all four images in the article were taken at the FattE-Bikes facility in Denver, including an image from our new paint booth.

There's nothing like national coverage, and it's no surprise our website visits leaped by 400% over the weekend!

After a booming 2nd quarter, the July heat is bringing on record sales!

Excited to report: we are on track to sell 100 electric bikes this month of July 2022. This is double the 50 ebikes we sold in July of 2021!

This is on top of a record Q2 sales, with 2.4 times the sales in the second quarter of 2021.

How are we keeping up with demand?

Well, we’re working hard at it. We’ve hired additional bike mechanics, and we have an additional 500 bikes worth of frames and components on the way. Our powder coating production room is in full swing. Things are bustling here at the FattE-Bikes facility!

Ebike Rebates Are Helping Boost Awareness, Accessibility and Sales

Purchase incentives for electric cars, ENERGY STAR appliances, solar panels and other products boost sales for these products, usually as they are entering the market as new products. The rebates or tax incentives provide consumers with lower effective prices, while increasing the adoption of desired technologies.

The same is happening - at an increasing rate - for rebates for the purchase of electric bikes. Local municipalities and utilities, from Hawaii to Vermont, are offering rebates, and consumers are responding.

While there are over 30 active local rebate programs, four states - HawaiiColoradoVermont and California - are launching statewide rebate programs, with millions of dollars in rebates allocated.

In Denver, Colorado, the City has sold out of it’s ebike rebates twice. (and, as we’ve noted, we have captured over 11% of those sales so far).

These rebates are boosting awareness, interest, and accessibility of electric bikes for American consumers.

Ebike Sales Already Robust

Now, ebike sales have already been doing well, with imports and overall sales effectively doubling year over year for the past several years, and this is the type of growth we are experiencing at FattE-Bikes.

Broadening the Market

Many of our sales have been to customers that fit the ‘baby-boomer’ demographic. What is most exciting about these rebates is that they are broadening the market to include younger buyers and those with lower incomes. This group generally will go to low-priced ‘throw away’ ebikes from Walmart, BestBuy or direct from online retailers.

Rebates, particularly those like Denver’s leading $400 rebate ($900 off an electric cargo bike), and making mid-priced, quality ebikes like FattE-Bikes become more accessible to younger buyers.

We expect that with younger buyers, the adoption of ebikes will increase even more rapidly. This group is more highly social - especially digitally - and carry a lot of influence on their peers. They also see value in the ability to customize and personalize their vehicles to reflect their lifestyles.

Localized and state-level electric bike rebates are putting even more demand on a robust electric bike market.

We are growing with this market, and will continue to build our share of the custom, built in the USA electric bike market.

FattE-Bikes Captures 12% Market Share of Denver’s Early Ebike Rebate Sales

In late April of this year, the City of Denver opened up applications for electric bike rebates to its residents.

Vouchers ranged from $400 to $1200 (the $1200 for income qualified buyers). Vouchers increased to $900 and $1700, respectively, for the purchase of an electric cargo bike.

Over 3,200 vouchers were issued, though only 848 have been redeemed at this point. Residents had up to 60 days to use their vouchers, with the vouchers redeemed by the ebike shops when the ebike is sold.

Based on those numbers, about 27% of the vouchers were redeemed for the purchase of ebikes, leaving the rest to expire and get reissued for subsequent rounds.

As of July 11th, FattE-Bikes processed 100 of the 848 vouchers claimed for ebike sales. That’s 11.8% of the market share of Denver rebate voucher sales, among 17 participating ebike sellers.

We are outselling other vendors 2:1!

Denver Issues Second Round of Vouchers to More Serious Ebike Buyers

The City of Denver has scheduled the release of  more vouchers every month through the end of the year. Earlier this week, Denver issued the second batch of vouchers: 2,000 in all.

As with the first batch, not all of these will get used, but based on visitors to our showroom - and the chatter in social media - this second group of applicants are even hungrier to get ebikes. 

This group is more serious about buying ebikes. They’ve been waiting for their chance, and we expect the percent of vouchers used will be higher.

Based on our Denver Ebike Rebate market share, we are looking at a steady range of almost 100 extra bike sales every month from the program alone.

This is a great boost to our already robust summer sales season, and helps ensure a steady base of sales from within Denver city limits throughout the year.

Naturally, we are still doing sales outside of Denver, and out of state, but this data shows not only strong response to rebate programs like Denver’s, but our ability to compete and win a strong market position among our competitors.

Ebikes Are Outselling Electric Cars and Trucks

We’ve talked about the ebike market opportunity in our videos. In this update, we’ll dig in a little more to the state of the electric bike market in the U.S., and how we are positioning FattE-Bikes to lead the ride in growth of built-in-the-U.S.A. ebike sales.

Electric vehicle sales have been growing over the last few years. The light electric vehicle market broke records in 2021, with an estimated 607,000 sales. That’s about double the number of EV sales the previous year (307,000) as reported by the Department of Energy. (Source)

Nice job electric cars and trucks, but electric bikes outsold you in 2021. Since many ebikes are sold online and direct to customers, tracking electric bike sales is a little more difficult, but the Light Electric Vehicle Association tracks electric bike imports, estimating that about 880,000 ebikes were imported to the U.S. in 2021.

LEVA Chairman Ed Benjamin reports that ebike retailers are selling out their stock, suggesting with confidence that all the 880,000 imported bikes were sold.

That’s almost double the 450,000 ebikes imported in 2020.

This doesn’t even count the built-in-the-USA ebikes sold.

Why are ebikes outselling light electric cars and trucks?

Ebikes are outselling electric cars largely because they are much more affordable and accessible to buyers. Ebikes are often a better alternative than an electric car, as many trips are faster on an ebike than a car, due to the near-car speeds ebikes achieve, along with dedicated lanes and pathways. Parking an ebike is also a lot easier than finding a spot for your full sized car.

Custom, American Built Ebikes Are a Growth Niche

While ebike sales are growing, consumer preferences for U.S. products 

Nearly 70% of respondents to a recent survey said they prefer American-made products. 83% said they would pay up to 20% more for products made domestically.

American consumers have the highest preference for American goods when they are buying items with concerns about quality, safety and durability: appliances, furniture and automobiles, for example.

Ebike buyers fit right into these preferences. They are buying a light electric vehicle, often replacing a car or planning to replace car trips. Ebike buyers want quality, safety and durability.

We build electric bikes in the U.S.A, so we can deliver this quality, safety and durability.

We learned early on that we can provide much better quality and performance by building our ebikes here in the U.S. Our Master Bike Mechanics build, test and tune every bike. We install extra equipment - like the throttle safety switch - to ensure our ebikes provide essential safety components.

As we’ve noted before, our paint process provides more durability than our competitors, and our build process ensures a longer lasting ebike.

Consumers Want Customization and Options

Those 880,000 imported bikes largely look the same. Similar frame styles, black and white colors. Very little differentiation. A minimum of 2% of ebikes sold will be customized, and we are one of the only manufacturers that can address that demand. This presents a growing niche and unique addressable market for FattE-Bikes.

Just as the e-bike market sales are near doubling, our sales are doubling. Ebike customers want built in the USA quality, and they want the unique customization that we can provide by building their ebike to order in the US.

Our primary competitors ship factory-assembled ebikes from overseas. This limits their stocking selection to two, maybe three color choices on the frames. Black. White. Ho hum.... These urethane-finished frames are also prone to peeling and easy chipping.

Yet most consumers love and want choice. Personalization. Customization. Look at the variety of choices and additions on any restaurant menu. Look at the after-market customization of  automobiles. The fashion market. Even a top shoe brand is offering customized shoes.

This is one of our distinct competitive advantages: by building ebikes in the USA, and building to order, we can offer 1,000s of color and styling combinations to our customers.

Once the customer selects their colors, we start with our in-house powder-coat paint finishing. Powder coating provides a more durable and beautiful paint finish as compared to urethane.

From an inventory standpoint, it's ideal as well. We keep raw frames available and ready to match the changing preferences for different colored frames, fenders and racks. We paint to order, so we have exactly the right amount of every color.

An Amazing first 48 Hours!

The first 48 hours of our equity crowdfunding campaign represents a big start for us in this campaign.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for all of our Early Bird investors. We know we have a lot of fans among our customers and community, but didn't quite expect this early level of investment.
We raised nearly $150,000 in just 48 hours!
We still have a ways to go to our goal, but this is a huge boost for the campaign and the company- just like that boost you get while riding one our our electric bikes! Put in on pedal assist 5, and away you go!
