Overview


Scalable breakthrough AI vision technology 


Epilog was founded in 2015 by Michael and Lance Mojaver with the goal of improving digital vision systems to match the capability of the human eye. Since then, we have developed and patented some of the world’s highest performing AI vision systems. Our technology leverages off-the-shelf sensors and AI processors in novel ways to rapidly scale performance up to 10-100x better than competing solutions.

In 2018, we partnered with Jabil, one of the world’s largest manufacturers, to help scale manufacturing of our unique vision systems. This partnership gave way to Luma, our first low cost production ready 8K vision system. To accelerate the adoption of the technology in the automotive field, we also developed Sherpa, a self-driving system that works as an add-on to existing cars.


The problem


Current vision systems fail to pick up on small details

Human eyes have the extraordinary capacity to resolve small details within thousands of objects all around us. The best vision systems in use today only deliver about 2% of the acuity our eyes have, picking up only large objects within restricted fields of views.  For example, machines can detect people in corridors or cars nearby, but will completely miss a small hazardous object on the road ahead.


The currently adopted industry solution to this major problem is increasing the number of cameras (and/or adding LIDAR) which rapidly increases system cost/complexity while causing diminished returns and decreased reliability.



The Solution


A new way to make high-performance AI vision systems


Through extensive innovation, Epilog has developed a human-level AI vision system that is cost-effective for adoption in mass markets. We call this type of system “an IMAX in your pocket” as it offers a cost-performance improvement about 10-100x over that of ordinary vision systems.

Our technology is protected by 9 patents and made affordable with the advent of fast AI chips and a $100 million precision robotic system that can assemble our product in minutes (Jabil).






The Market


Scalable products for three massive markets

Our use of edge-based AI makes installation and use of Epilog technology effortless as the quality and simplicity of our design reduce cost and effort by 10 times or more.



The most lucrative market for Epilog is driver assistance technology, compatible with ~50 million cars on the road today, as well as integrating directly into cars designed for 2023 and later.


The second market is queue management in large spaces like airports, terminals, industrial, and government buildings; tens of millions of currently installed cameras are in need of retrofitting and other sites require new cameras.



The third market is remote inspection, used for large sites like campuses and infrastructure either fixed or mounted on a drone.

Our Traction


Product entering customer trials, new patents and partnerships


Beginning 1Q21 Epilog  started the production of its queue management products and scheduled customer installations. The initial product being released is called Tempo, a patent pending remote body temperature measuring device developed in response to COVID-19.  We believe Tempo is the only system in the world that can accurately detect the presence of fever and/or perspiration in a queue of people at different distances from the device. Tempo has an expected Average Selling Price (ASP) of $1,500 making it affordable for restaurants, hotels, dental and doctors’ offices, and potentially millions of other small businesses. Full scale production of Epilog queue management products is anticipated in 2H21 in partnership with one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers, Jabil Optics.  OEM licensing is also being considered.


Epilog has significantly advanced its driver assistance system, SideCar, in preparation for beta testing and customer trials. The new design replaces the original windshield-mounted system with an integrated design. The camera system and processor are now located behind the rearview mirror and the display is projected via the vehicle's built-in display.  We are additionally developing connectivity functions into SideCar via mobile apps to help remotely monitor the vehicle and provide some control functions, for example a remote unlock or start if available. There are millions of cars on the road today that support CarPlay/Android Auto with LKAS and are compatible with SideCar.


Epilog has also completed  a proof of concept of the world’s high resolution cinema quality AI video capture system for sports and entertainment applications for an undisclosed customer.  The new AI based system is expected to have a resolution of 16K x 16K (250 MegaPixels), far exceeding an IMAX theater.


Nvidia, Jabil and Sony are key Epilog suppliers and preferred partners but do not directly endorse Epilog’s current offering.

The Business Model

Epilog intends to generate revenue through a combination of unit sales, software subscriptions, and support. Tempo is expected to be available online for purchase at a price of $1,500. SideCar is expected to be sold “direct to consumer” online and at physical locations for $999/unit, with an optional $29/month subscription package for 4G connectivity and additional features. Luma is available for purchase now at $4,999, with production versions planned at $2,495 (for the full AI version) and $999 (for an entry level AI device), with all pricing subject to change.


Tempo is being beta tested at medical offices, factories, restaurants, and other places of business as of 1Q21.  Epilog has lead customers engaged in the transportation sector (airports, train stations, metro areas) for Luma in queue management trials. Our fast-to-market entry strategy will initially offer direct-to-customer sales over online channels while distribution channels are being set up. An optional cloud based subscription package (estimated $5 per stream) will offer customers more features and insight into their devices.

Our production partner Jabil is capable of manufacturing up to an estimated 15,000 units a day and well positioned to support OEM partnerships.

SideCar Simulation Testing

Self-driving simulation provides a valuable tool for extending Sidecar test cases rapidly. 

The simulation tools we currently use incorporate a physics engine with detailed models of each vehicle’s subsystems. 

The simulation can be easily customized to different makes and models. 

The models enable simulating the unique kinematic properties of each vehicle. 

Different types of roads and traffic conditions can be simulated much faster and more systematically within a modeling environment, improving test coverage. 

For example, testing in bad weather conditions and fog is best first tested within a simulation environment. 

Because SideCar AI treats actual and simulated environments similarly, simulations can be reliably extended to reality in most cases. 

Highly detailed simulations, blur the line between models and reality, helping improve Sidecar by increasing the number and complexity of test cases more rapidly.

Epilog granted the SideCar trademark by USPTO

We are pleased to report that on August 3, 2021 the trademark SIDECAR has been allowed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO.) The allowance is an International Class 9 authorization for a “Day and night vision system primarily comprising motion sensors and a camera for assisting drivers of vehicles.”  Epilog’s self-driving product was previously called “Sherpa” and the name change to Sidecar was motivated because of potential trademark conflicts.

A trademarked name helps protect a company’s products and services against infringement, and counterfeiting.  The Sidecar trademark provides protection for both Epilog and consumers alike and is an integral part of delivering quality products and services.


Wellcome testing at a medical office

Wellcome is a non-contact health assessment device designed to help with screening potentially infected individuals from distances up to 10 feet away. Wellcome estimates health condition through accurate measurements of a person’s body temperature, blood oxygen level, heart rate as well as purely AI-based metrics including height, weight, age, and gender.


Wellcome is currently being offered for testing in medical offices under an evaluation program. The initial units will help fine-tune system performance and reliability as well as demonstrate each use case. A video captured at each demo location will be available for promotional and personnel training purposes.


Wellcome shares much of its core technology with other Epilog AI vision products and is expected to be available for pre-orders on the Aperis website in 3Q21.

Aperis CloseView Sneak Preview

Keeping track of people and vehicles flowing in and out of facilities is a difficult and tedious task for humans, both in private and public settings. Examples include looking after frequently visited, ignored or restricted zones, idle vehicles and/or persons, perimeter breaches, safety and/or liability concerns. AI-generated real-time insights can provide actionable intelligence for facility managers, reducing response times and the chance for errors.

Leveraging the Epilog patented AI vision technology platform, CloseView is a new concept currently being developed under Aperis branding to address the huge challenge of AI coverage of large spaces. CloseView is designed to significantly reduce system complexity/cost, simplify installation, reduce scene illumination requirements and eliminate the reliability issues associated with “robotic” systems. Parking lots are the primary target market for CloseView as illustrated in the attached visualization. The US has as many as two billion* parking spots, an estimated 20% of accidents (50,000†) and 500,000+ violent crimes‡ that occur in parking lots each year.  Many government facilities and/or complexes can receive additional benefits from CloseView through pending infrastructure upgrades.


More details on CloseView will be announced in the months ahead, first samples are expected to be ready in Q4 time frame.

Epilog forms new wholly-owned subsidiary, Aperis

Epilog has formed a new wholly-owned subsidiary, “Aperis, LLC,” a California company. Aperis was established to differentiate the branding/messaging for our queue management products, distinguishing it from the self-driving technology (e.g. SideCar). Aperis will have its own dedicated website, trademarks, salesforce, distribution channels, and patent portfolio. The first product being offered under the Aperis brand is a remote health diagnostic device using the trademark “WellCome™” (formerly Tempo). The second product being developed under the Aperis brand uses the trademark “CloseView™”. The primary application for CloseView is AI analysis of the movement of people and vehicles in very large outdoor or indoor environments, e.g. warehouses, parking lots, etc. 


The best news is Epilog investors effectively now own two companies, Epilog and Aperis, each with a separate potential exit opportunity.  The logos presented below are concepts and are still being finalized.


Epilog 8K Vision System

The majority of driver assistance systems available on the road today use a collection of low-quality cell-phone type cameras to form their forward vision system. For example, our understanding is the Autopilot system "tiles" eight cameras, five looking forward and three looking rearwards. In comparison, Epilog Sidecar uses one 8K (25MP) vision system which we estimate to be 10x the image quality of the five Autopilot forward-looking cameras combined. By avoiding duplication and ambiguity inherent in tiled systems, we estimate SideCar can detect objects on the road with about 10x more precision and 3x farther away. Even better, to enjoy the benefits of Epilog technology you don’t need to buy a new car, just add a SideCar!



Epilog raises $1M in 2 months!

About a year ago we began developing a vision-based fever detection system in response to the pandemic. After careful competitor analysis, we are excited to present Tempo with two pending patents. Tempo is a standalone solution that can evaluate a person’s health from up to 15 feet away, by accurate assessments of body temperature, blood oxygen level, heart rate, height, weight, gender, and age. Since the Tesla Autopilot is currently the leader in driver assistance systems we felt a direct comparison would be beneficial. Our understanding is Autopilot uses eight cameras for their vision system, five forward facing (most important) and three rear facing. Epilog Sidecar uses one 8K vision system which we estimate to be 10x the image quality of the five Autopilot cameras combined.
